After mulling it over, Byron said, "Just go to the Blackwood Manor tonight as usual. It doesn't matter if you don't have an invitation.
With so many people there, the Blackwoods won't turn you away in public. After all, we haven't formally announced a fallout, so the outside world has no idea."
"But the guards at the gate are Blackwood staff. What if they stop me and refuse to let me in?"
With so many elite socialites attending tonight, she absolutely refused to be publicly humiliated by being left standing at the door. She would be the laughingstock of their entire social circle.
Mrs. Jeter chimed in, "How about I call Nadine and get her permission for you to attend? With her approval, the guards won't give you a hard time."
Yvonne beamed. "That's perfect! Mom, call her right now."
Mrs. Jeter immediately pulled out her phone and made the call.
Lisa answered the phone on Nadine's behalf. One look at the caller ID and she knew exactly what the Jeters were scheming.
"Hello, Mrs. Jeter, this is Lisa. Nadine is busy pruning her favorite bonsai trees, so she asked me to answer for her. You can tell me whatever you need, and I will pass your exact words along to her."
The phone was on speaker. Nadine wasn't pruning any bonsai trees; she was sitting comfortably on the sofa, eating the fresh fruit her eldest grandson had specifically bought for her.
"Oh, hello, Lisa. I heard the Blackwood family is hosting an Autumn Gala tonight. Yvonne heard about it and really wants to join the fun, but she's worried about not being let in. Could you run it by Nadine for me?"
"Hold on a moment, let me go ask her."
Lisa looked at Nadine and pointed at the phone, silently asking if she should approve or deny the request.
She hung up the phone, tossed it onto the sofa, and snapped angrily, "Who the hell does she think she is?!"
"Mom, what are you so mad about? Nadine agreed, didn't she?"
"Yes, she agreed, but I just got lectured by a maid! It makes my blood boil!"
Yvonne quickly smoothed things over. "Mom, there's no reason to be upset. Once I fix our relationship with the Blackwoods, those maids wouldn't dare disrespect you."
Mrs. Jeter nodded. "True. So when you go tonight, whatever you do, do not act impulsively. Think before you speak or act.
Especially when it comes to Julius's wife. Do not give her a reason to be upset. That old woman seems excessively protective of her granddaughter-in-law. She even had the maid specifically relay a warning about it."
