Yvonne whispered her plan into Rhoda's ear.
Rhoda hesitated. "Will this work? This is the Blackwoods' turf. What if they trace it back to us?"
Yvonne quickly reassured her. "They won't. Think about it—the Blackwoods would never let such a massive scandal go public."
"You mean they wouldn't dare leak it, but once Julius finds out how shameless that bumpkin is, he'll be repulsed, and then they'll get a divorce?"
Yvonne nodded. "Exactly. And when I become Mrs. Blackwood, I'll personally set you up with Jason. How does that sound?"
Rhoda's eyes lit up. "You have to keep your word. Don't play me."
The allure of becoming Jason's wife was just too strong.
If she could land him, she wouldn't need to waste time networking with any other heirs.
Yvonne pushed harder. "Why would I lie to you? Besides, you're not doing this alone. I'm involved too. Do you really think I'd set myself up to fail?"
"Okay, I'm in. Let's humiliate her." The temptation of marrying into the Blackwood family was too great; Rhoda was easily swayed.
If she married Jason, she would never have to suffer under the wicked matriarch of the Ford family ever again.
The Fords might even have to beg her for favors, and she would finally be able to pay back all the misery they'd caused her.
"It's a deal. We'll split up. Stay sharp, and don't let anyone catch you doing anything suspicious."
"I know."
Having cemented their plan, the two separated.
Stella was following Julius around, greeting guests, completely unaware she was being targeted.
"It's just that your eyes look remarkably similar to someone I know." The more he looked, the more identical they seemed.
"Oh? Who is this person that you're so captivated by?" *He definitely suspects me.*
Steward sighed. "A girl who helped my grandfather recover from a severe stroke. It's probably just my imagination. Her last name was Todd; there's no way you two are the same person."
He had to be losing his mind, obsessing over a girl from the sticks.
Just then, a voice echoed through the microphone. "Respected ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining the Blackwood family on this beautiful Autumn Gala. Tonight, we have plenty of activities—trivia games, floating lanterns by the pool, and other festivities for you to enjoy. But first, our eldest grandson has a few words he'd like to share. Please give him a warm welcome."
It was the butler, Larry.
Julius walked over, took Stella's hand, and led her to Larry. Taking the microphone, he spoke. "Tonight is a perfect night. I want to take this wonderful opportunity to announce that I am a married man. This is my wife, Stella Hawthorne.”
