"Since you think the Blackwood deal is so beneath us, you're getting a job starting tomorrow. Go out there and bring me some fresh contracts. No work, no money!"
Una's pride flared up, and she shot back, "Fine! I'll work! It's not that hard anyway. Vernon, make sure you give me a good position. Hmph!"
With that, she stormed up the stairs and slammed her bedroom door.
Marcus felt like he was about to have a heart attack. "I've been way too lenient with her. She needs a brutal reality check to crush that ego of hers. Vernon, start her at the absolute bottom. And don't you dare help her secretly. If we don't fix this attitude now, she's going to destroy this family."
"I understand, Dad," Vernon replied.
Marcus then rounded on his wife. "And you—no slipping her cash. You're the reason she's so spoiled. You've coddled her into a nightmare!"
Without another word, he marched out of the house.
Karan was so insulted she could only point silently at his retreating back, speechless.
After a long moment, she turned to her son to complain. "I can't believe he's blaming me for this! Honestly!"
Vernon tried to soothe her. "Mom, he's just angry right now. Let it go. But honestly, Una really does need to be put in her place. Like Dad said, if she does something completely unforgivable, it'll be too late for regrets."
Karan rubbed her temples, a migraine building. "Fine, do what your father says. I'm done. I don't have the energy for this anymore."
"I've got it, Mom. Go get some rest."
"It was alright. I'm guessing Jason told you? Look, I've been meaning to ask you—what exactly is going on with you two? At the Autumn Gala, he dragged you off like you were plotting a heist."
She obviously couldn't tell Sabrina that their trip wasn't a vacation, but a dangerous undercover mission.
Sabrina sighed heavily. "Ugh, it's such a mess. That's actually why I asked you out today. I need your advice, because I am completely lost."
"What happened? I didn't think anything could make the great Sabrina Sherwood sigh like that." To Stella, Sabrina had always been the ultimate independent woman.
"You know Jason and I went to high school together, right?" Sabrina asked miserably. "Well, he completely played dirty. At the gala, he begged me to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of Nadine. I must have been out of my mind because I actually said yes. Now she's obsessed with us. She calls me constantly, begging me to come to the Blackwood Manor for family dinners. What am I supposed to do?"
