Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 426

Had something happened that he didn't know about?

He shot a look at his son. He had heard Vernon went to the police station yesterday, but the boy hadn't mentioned a word of it upon returning. Did this have something to do with Una?

"Una, spit it out. What happened? Did you offend Julius Blackwood's wife again?"

Una frantically waved her hands. "No, Dad, I swear I didn't!"

She made a solemn vow to herself never to cross Stella again for the rest of her life.

Marcus scoffed. "I don't believe you. If you didn't offend her, why would you actively ask to apologize? Last time I ordered you to do it, you threw a fit."

"I... I'll tell you."

Una recounted exactly what happened at the Joywave Club, not daring to leave out a single detail.

After listening to the whole story, Marcus narrowed his eyes at his son. "Something this serious happened, and you were helping her cover it up?"

Vernon rubbed his temples. "Dad, I wasn't trying to hide it from you. I was planning to tell you today. But since Una is coming clean herself, I figured I wouldn't need to do the talking."

Yesterday, on their way back from the station, his sister had begged him not to tell their parents, swearing she would confess everything herself.

He figured if she was going to own up to it, he'd let her. After all, he wasn't there at the Joywave Club, so he didn't have the full details anyway.

After bailing her out, he had gone straight to a business dinner and come home late. He assumed she had already come clean, but clearly, she hadn't.

And now he was taking the heat for it!

Marcus sighed heavily and looked at his daughter with a stern but weary expression. "I hope this incident has finally knocked some sense into you.

If parents didn't discipline their kids, society would eventually do it for them—and far more brutally.

He just hoped it wasn't too late for them to grow up.

Una lowered her head, her voice quiet. "I know, Dad. I was foolish before. I won't act like that anymore."

She had genuinely realized her flaws and was determined to change.

Marcus nodded slowly. "In that case... Vernon, you're friends with Julius, aren't you? Find a way to invite him and his wife out for dinner. We'll host them.

"When the time comes, Una, you will apologize properly to Mrs. Blackwood. And we will formally thank her for saving you. If it weren't for her stepping in yesterday, you would have lost everything."

"Understood, Dad. I'll take care of it," Vernon said.
