"Hit me, then. Stella, as long as you stop being angry, you can hit me however you want. I won't dodge, and I won't fight back."
As long as she didn't leave him or talk about ending the marriage, she could do whatever she pleased.
Stella paused and thought about it. Wait, if she divorced Julius, the prenup dictated that he would leave with nothing. That meant the Imperial Gardens property would belong entirely to her. If anyone was moving out, it should be him.
"Fine, I won't leave. But you need to let me go first."
Hearing her promise not to go, Julius finally released his grip.
"I'll stay, but once the divorce is finalized, you're the one moving out. You're walking away empty-handed, which means this house belongs to me."
She actually quite liked the house and had grown accustomed to living here.
"Alright, we'll talk about it when the time comes." He had no intention of agreeing to the divorce anyway. He would stall for as long as humanly possible.
"Tonight, you're sleeping in the guest room. The master bedroom is mine. No arguments."
"Fine. Whatever you want." As long as she stayed, he would agree to anything.
She returned to the master bedroom and locked the door behind her.
She was genuinely worried Julius might play dirty and sneak in during the middle of the night.
But after she showered and lay down, she tossed and turned, completely unable to fall asleep.
This bed held far too many beautiful memories of her and Julius.
Thinking back on every little moment since they had gotten married, she had to admit—he had truly put his heart into this marriage.
And somewhere along the way, she had genuinely fallen in love with him.
Would she be able to get used to a life without him after they divorced?
It would probably hurt like hell at first.
Her resolve began to waver.
She replayed everything he had told her tonight. The more she thought about it, the more something felt wrong.
Since Faye was clearly a manipulative schemer, was it possible that setting Julius up had been premeditated?
Furthermore, given Julius's sheer willpower and tolerance, an ordinary aphrodisiac wouldn't have been enough to render him completely helpless. Unless she had slipped him a heavy sedative.
He panicked. "Stella, what are you doing?" He refused to be kicked out of his own home.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm packing your things. You have to move out anyway, so I'm doing you a favor."
"There's no need to rush this, right?" He stepped forward and started hanging the clothes back in the closet.
"What are you doing? I take them out, and you put them right back. Julius, what is your problem? Don't forget what you promised me last night."
"I didn't promise anything. You were drunk and misremembered. I agreed to no such thing."
Technically, he hadn't agreed to finalize a divorce today. He had merely said they could talk about it later.
"Fine, then let's continue discussing last night's topic right now." They certainly hadn't finished the conversation.
"I don't want to talk about it right now. Grandmother wants us to go back to the estate for dinner tonight."
Call it avoiding the issue, call it cowardice—he didn't care. He just didn't want to discuss the divorce. He refused to let it happen.
"I'm not going. If you want to go, go by yourself." If they were divorcing, she needed to cut ties.
Julius pleaded desperately. "Stella, I'm the one who made a mistake. Grandmother has always treated you well. You don't have to cut her out just because of me, do you? If you don't come back with me, she's going to suspect something is wrong."
