Cyrus couldn't wrap his head around it. He had been hiding here for four days without a hitch. How did they find him?
He had planned to lay low until the heat died down and then flee the country. Now, they were right on his doorstep. It was an absolute disaster.
Hadn't the old master assured him this tactical maze was unbreakable?
He scrambled up, raising his hands in a mock surrender, but his eyes darted around for an opening as he slowly backed toward the bed.
"What you're doing is illegal," he babbled, continuing his retreat. "You have no jurisdiction to take me. I'm not going anywhere with you."
Marsh scoffed coldly. "Take a look around. Do you really think you have a choice? You're finished."
Cyrus kept backing up.
"Did you hire someone to track me?"
"How did you even find this place?"
"It should have been impossible to get through..."
He was rambling, intentionally keeping their attention on his words to lower their guard.
The second the back of his knees hit the mattress, his hand shot under the pillow and whipped out a handgun.
He leveled the barrel at them, his voice pitching into a frantic roar. "Back off! All of you, back the hell up! You—the woman! Get over here!"
Stella caught Julius's eye, giving him a subtle shake of her head to tell him not to worry. Slowly, she raised her hands and walked toward Cyrus.
"Stella!"
Marsh and the others tensed, panic flashing in their eyes. They had let him grab a weapon, and now he was targeting the boss's wife!
Julius held up a hand, stopping his men from rushing forward. "Stand down. Everyone step back and let her go."
He had seen his wife in action too many times to feel a shred of anxiety.
