Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 91

Chloe threw her head back and laughed loudly.

Stella turned to her, her face completely void of emotion, watching Chloe gloat. She didn't say a single word. Instead, she shifted her gaze to Miranda.

Miranda had decades of life experience over Chloe, and seeing Stella so eerily calm made her feel incredibly uneasy. Even though Stella wasn't throwing a fit, a trace of genuine panic crept into Miranda's chest.

She didn't dare meet Stella's eyes. Taking two alarmed steps back, she tried to explain, but her throat felt as if it had been filled with concrete.

Finally, she forced the words out. "Stella, don't listen to Chloe's nonsense... It's not like that..."

Stella's voice was like ice. "Then tell me, what is it like?"

No wonder last night, when she asked Julius where he had found her mother's urn, he had deflected, saying the process didn't matter, only the result.

He was worried she wouldn't be able to handle the truth!

Guilt washed over Miranda. "I..."

She didn't dare say it. She was terrified of saying the wrong thing in front of Stella. After all, she was the one who had instigated Frederick to hide Clara's urn in the doghouse all those years ago.

If Stella found out, given her unhinged temper, she might actually kill her!

Stella sneered. "What? Cat got your tongue?"

After having her laugh, Chloe sneered back at Stella. "Stella, you don't have to interrogate my mother. In a relationship, the unloved one is the true homewrecker! My dad loves my mom. He only married yours because your gangster grandfather forced him into it. He never loved your mother. You're the daughter of a homewrecker! Your mom is dead, dad hates you, and you're destined to never know what love is. You're just a pathetic loser who grew up without parents!"

For years, Stella had always called her mother the homewrecker and her the illegitimate child. It had infuriated Chloe, but today, she finally got to strike back.

And it felt absolutely amazing!

Stella stepped up and slapped her two more times. "Just to prove I still dare. Here's a double dose."

She shook her hand out, rubbing her palm. "Your skin is so thick it actually hurts my hand. And next time, use less foundation. You got it all over me."

Given the vile things Chloe had just said about her mother, a few slaps were getting off easy.

Chloe shrieked, lunging at Stella with her hands outstretched. "Stella, I'm going to kill you!"

She charged forward recklessly, desperate to return the slaps.

Unfortunately, she didn't even get to brush the fabric of Stella's clothes before Stella aimed a swift kick at her, sending her sprawling to the floor.

Chloe lay on the ground, wailing uncontrollably. "Mom! What are you just standing there for? Stop her! Are you really going to let her bully me like this?"
