Chapter 108

Serena’s POV

“Of course Samantha isn’t alive.” Elena stood, smoothing down her skirt. Her look of terror was quickly smoothed over by a mask of calm indifference. “Didn’t you bury her body recently? Why would you think she’s alive?”

Kade’s brow furrowed. “Some things that seem impossible are possible in our world,” he said quietly, watching Elena for her reaction.

“Including a dead woman coming back to life?” Elena stared at Kade calmly, almost in a judging way. After a moment, his face fell, and he stared at the floor with a mixture of confusion and resignation.

Serena, however, was in complete shock. Elena had just implied that Samantha could still be alive. Serena had seen the fear in Elena’s eyes when she’d realized what she had said. Was it possible…? Elena already knew the truth about Samantha’s situation; what else was she covering up? What would she do next?

But Serena wouldn’t admit to the true thoughts swirling within her mind. Kade couldn’t know the real fear she felt at the possibility of Samantha being alive. Serena and her family had already been implicated by Elena, and that was bad enough. She needed to do damage control.

“Can’t you see, Kade?” Serena blurted out. “She’s manipulating you-again! All she wants is to be your Luna. First she shows up and tries to hurt Ivy for her own gain, and now this? Accusing me and my family of letting Samantha be wrongfully framed?”

Kade glanced at Serena. She lifted her chin, refusing to show the fear she felt. “For all we know, she did know Samantha at one point and deliberately altered her appearance to look more like her, knowing that you were searching for her,” she said. “Everything she does is a manipulation.”

“That’s not true,” Elena protested. “I didn’t alter my appearance. I can’t help the way I look, and I’ve done nothing but tell the truth!”

Serena ignored Elena and kept her gaze fixed on Kade. She searched his face, silently praying that he would finally believe her. That he wouldn’t side with Elena this time. That all of this could come to an end once and for

all.

Finally, after a moment that felt like an eternity, Kade murmured, “I want to know more about this alleged friendship.” He looked at Elena for a beat too long, and then at Serena. His gaze hardened. “But for now, Serena, I’ve heard enough from you. I’ll make my own decisions on the matter.”

With that, Kade gestured to Elena’s guard, who escorted her away. She shot Ivy a worried look over her shoulder, but didn’t argue and left without a fuss. Once she was gone, Kade strode over to Serena and took Ivy from her

arms.

“You don’t really believe her, do you?” Serena whispered, grabbing Kade’s arm. “About any of it?”

Kade’s eyes flickered down to the point of contact for a brief moment before he pulled away as if he’d been burnt. He didn’t answer-just left Serena standing there, fearing the worst.
