Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 128

Chapter 128

Elena’s POV

“I can’t believe it, Elena. Your condition is improving at three times the rate we expected!”

Jayne’s eyes were alight with enthusiasm as she checked my vitals. I had just finished my second transfusion of Tyler’s blood and I felt immensely better-which was to say, I still felt mostly like shit, but I could sit up without too much agony and those awful black tendrils had begun to recede, so it seemed I was well on the road to recovery by now.

“Does this mean I can leave the infirmary now?” I asked. I felt impatient to get out of this bed, to get up and get moving. I had been stuck here for two days already.

Jeyne studied me for a moment, then sighed. “Very well. But that doesn’t mean you can leave the pack.”

I smiled wryly. “I just want to walk around a little. I feel restless.”

“Fair enough.” Jeyne gave me a sympathetic look and helped me get up. I changed into a comfortable pair of sweatpants and a sweater that had been brought for me, and although I had to lean on a cane as I limped out of the infirmary, at least I could walk mostly on my own.

Soon, I would return to Ivy. I would save her from whatever fate Serena had in store for her.

But for now, I was confined to Nightshade pack.

Tyler and Samson were both out at the moment, handling some matters in regards to the wall, and Lana was in the middle of training, so I hobbled up to my bedroom. I breathed in deeply as I stepped into the cozy, familiar space. It felt nice to walk around freely again with no guard following me, even if I had to limp and move slowly.

To my surprise, I entered my room to find several bags and boxes sitting on my bed. There was a note from Samson attached to one of the bags that read: “Some gifts to cheer you up. I’m still not entirely sure what you like, so I got everything. -Love, Samson”

I laughed softly to myself and opened the gifts. Samson really had gone all out-new sweaters, scarves, socks, dresses, books, cosmetics… Everything a girl could want and more.

But I didn’t need any of this. I already had plenty in the way of material possessions thanks to Samson and Tyler, and other than that, there was only one thing I wanted: my daughter.

As I looked through the gifts, I suddenly had an idea. I recalled mention of the rogues who I had met in the forest living in a small house in town now, and the day was bright and sunny. I decided to pay them a visit.

I gathered up the things I didn’t need-the scarves, hats, and socks, a fuzzy blanket that Samson had purchased, the cosmetics, and a couple of dresses-and placed them in a bag. Then, after bundling myself up and grabbing some spare loaves of bread and a basket of oranges from the kitchen, I headed down to their house.

It took some time to get there, seeing as how slowly I moved, but eventually I arrived in front of the small, nondescript wooden door. It had been painted red, and the stone chimney on the roof was pumping with plumes of smoke. I knocked three times. A moment later, the door swung open.

The old woman stood in front of me, eyes widening when she saw me there.

“Silver girl!” she breathed, gathering her shawl tighter around her shoulders. “You’re alive!”

“I brought some things I thought you might need.” I lifted the bag and smiled.
