Chapter 129
The boy seemed perfectly healthy, and Sara forced him to say “Thank you” for healing him before he snatched an orange from the bag and scampered off.
“Alpha Samson put me, my niece, grandson, and a couple of others up here,” she said, pouring my tea for me. The others are living in the packhouse as Omega laborers.”

“I hope everyone is happy here,” I said.
She nodded. “The Alpha has been very kind to us; hasn’t charged us a penny for any of this.” She gestured around the tiny house. “He’s a good man.”
I smiled. “I know.” I nudged the bag closer to her. “Please accept my gifts. I don’t need them, and I thought you might like them.”
Sara dove into the bag, gasping and holding up the food and various garments. She thanked me profusely and went to try one of the dresses on.
When she was gone, the old woman peered at me warily from beneath bushy eyebrows.
“You already healed my grandson,” she pointed out. “And we tried to repay you by keeping you alive when we found you in the woods. Now, you’re giving us gifts-do you expect anything in return?”
“Are you kidding me?” I snorted and took a sip of my tea. “They’re gifts. I don’t want anything. I’m eternally grateful for what you did.”
“As are we.” The woman’s eyes softened. “Thank you, Silver girl. But rogues aren’t used to handouts. So whatever you want, just ask.”
I blushed faintly, then suddenly realized I didn’t know her name. “By the way,” I said, “what can I call you?”
“The younger ones usually just call me Granny. You can call me that, too.”
I nodded, grinning. “Granny, it is.”
“But there must be something we can do for you as thanks for these gifts,” Granny said, gesturing to the bag.
“There’s nothing I want in the world,” I replied. My face fell. “I just want my daughter. Everything else is meaningless to me.”
Granny lifted a single white brow. “Let me talk to the boys. I might be able to convince one to make a visit to Crescent Hollow-to check on her for you.”
I blinked. “You’d do that? What if he gets caught?”
“He won’t.” Granny smiled. “We’re rogues, Silver girl. We know how to get around unseen and unheard.”
My cheeks flushed again. “Well, if you think it’s possible… I would be forever grateful to know if my child is safe. But you really don’t have to-”
“Consider it done,” she said before I could finish.
“Well? How does it look?” Sara emerged from the other room then, smiling brightly. The dress, a simple wool

number with a skirt that fell to the calves, fit her perfectly. It was practical but stylish, and would certainly keep her warm in the winter.
“You look beautiful-” I began, but before I could finish, the door burst open. Granny gasped, her hand flying to a kitchen knife sitting on the table on instinct. But it was Natasha who strode into the house. Not that that was much better than a real intruder; her face was thunderous.
“What is all this?” she gasped, storming over and snatching up the bag. She held up one of the oranges. “You stole these from the Alpha House!”
“The clothes were gifts to me from Samson. And the food was from the surplus cupboard, and likely would have gone bad before anyone got a chance to eat it. I thought it would be nice to share it with the new members of the pack.”
Natasha’s eyes widened. “Distributing aid is a Luna’s duty, and you are not a Luna!”
I frowned. “Well, you should have gotten here first, then,” I blurted out before I could stop myself. I knew I shouldn’t have said that, but I couldn’t help it; I had never seen Natasha give a damn about charity. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Natasha’s face went as red as a beet. “You dare challenge my authority?”
