Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143

“She’s not dead,” Serena hissed, poking her finger into the center of Nellie’s chest. “You were supposed to make sure she was dead. What the fuck happened?”

Nellie’s throat bobbed. “I-I don’t know! She was dead when I left her-”

“Don’t fucking lie to me.” Serena leaned close to Nellie, partially extending her fangs to show she was serious. ” I am your Luna. You will tell me the truth. Now.”

The Omega blanched, waffling for a few long moments before she finally blurted out the truth.

“O-Okay! I… I heard her say my name, and I saw she was still breathing… I couldn’t do it, okay? I couldn’t finish the job! I ran away!”

“You little…” Serena backed away, clutching her hair in disbelief. “You had one job! And

you failed.”

“I-I’m sorry, Luna! It’s just… I couldn’t kill someone! I got scared. I didn’t mean to defy you-”

“It’s not even just that you defied me. It’s that you lied about it, too. How am I supposed to rest easy in this pack when I know there’s a liar amongst my ranks? How can I trust you ever again?”

Nellie’s eyes widened. “Are you… Are you saying…”

“Yes.” Serena didn’t hesitate. She snapped her fingers, and the Gamma strode into the room, holding a length of rope and a burlap sack.

Nellie didn’t have a chance to scream before she was knocked out and tied up. The Gamma placed the sack over her head, and they carried her out the back door, keeping to the shadows so no one could see.

She finally began to stir by the time the wall was out of sight. The sky was dark by that point, the ground cold and slick with slushy snow. The Gamma threw Nellie down on the forest floor and ripped the burlap sack from

her head.

“Where… Where am I?” Nellie breathed, looking around frantically. “Have you really taken me to the wilds-”

“You are henceforth banished from Crescent Hollow,” Serena cut her off coldly. “Return, and I’ll kill you. Do you understand?”

Nellie trembled. “B-But Luna-”

“Maybe you didn’t hear me.” Serena crouched, grabbing Nellie’s face. Hard. “Do. You. Understand?”

Nellie hesitated. Big eyes darted over to the Gamma for support, but he wasn’t even looking at her; he was picking at the dirt under his nails with his pocket knife.

Finally, she nodded.

Serena released her and straightened. “Untie her ankles, but leave her hands,” she said. The Gamma nodded and strode over to Nellie, cutting the bonds around her ankles as she squirmed and begged.

“Goodbye, Nellie. Good luck in the wilds.”

“Luna! Luna, wait! SERENA!”

Serena didn’t look back-she simply kept walking until Nellie’s cries faded. Until she reached the broken section of wall. Until she reached home.

And by that point, her mind had been made up. The thought had been coming and going for days now-whether to truly kill the child or perhaps just make her disappear, leave her at an orphanage in another pack, anything to get her out of the way of the succession-but now Serena knew that she had to take the most extreme route if she was going to protect her reputation.

Ivy was the one thing that was truly drawing Samantha back to Crescent Hollow. If Ivy wasn’t here, then Samantha would have no reason to return. Furthermore, why would she bother telling Kade the truth about what happened all those years ago if she thought Kade killed her?

No, if Samantha thought that Kade was the one who killed her daughter, then she would never return. She would never bother exonerating herself from her past. She would always hate him, and would never want to see him again.

Serena would have to eliminate Ivy, of course. And she would make Samantha believe that Kade was the one who

did it.
