Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 184

Chapter 184

And most of all, how old was their child? How long had Kade waited after murdering my daughter to get Serena pregnant? Had it happened on their wedding night, or had they at least had the decency to give it a few weeks?

Maybe my father was right. Maybe I needed to finally forget all about Kade-to find a new mate, settle down, and have a family of my own.

And yet, the thought made my stomach twist uncomfortably. Seven years had passed since Ivy died, and the very notion of replacing her felt like a disservice to her memory.

I knew I would love any of my future children with just as much fervor as I had loved her as I still loved her- but it wouldn’t be the same.

I shook my head, trying to dispel the thoughts, and stood to use the bathroom; really, just to splash some cool water on my wrists before I cried. Lana only had one rule for our girls’ nights: no crying. I planned to adhere to that rule.

But I only made it halfway to the bathrooms when I suddenly bumped into a tall, sturdy frame. An enticing and familiar scent washed over me, and for a moment, I was rooted to my spot. My wolf howled, pulling at the inside of my chest as if raging against invisible bonds.

I looked up into the stranger’s face, and realized he wasn’t a stranger at all. When he pulled his hood down, grey eyes bored into me like two silver coins glinting in the dim light.

“Elena. There you are.” He took a step closer, towering over me now. “Come back to Nightshade with me. I’ll double your pay.”

The mention of payment made my jaw clench again, even more so now after what Serena had said.

“No, thanks,” I muttered. “I’ve got a… thing.”

I went to brush past him, but he caught my wrist. His grip was surprisingly gentle, and I couldn’t resist the urge to turn and look up at him again. That pleading look in his eyes, the one I saw at Tyler’s Alpha Ceremony, had returned tenfold. The sight of it took my breath away.

“Please,” he whispered.

The desperation in his voice made my wolf howl even louder until the sound drowned out even the frantic beating of my own heart in my chest.

“I ”

Just then, Lana appeared behind Kade. Tyler was with her as well, seemingly having come to join us. Both of their faces paled when they saw Kade holding my wrist in the darkened corner.

“Let go of her!” Tyler surged forward and shoved Kade against the wall. Surprisingly, Kade didn’t fight back this time-nor did he resist when two Nightshade guards arrived and took him by both arms. He just continued to stare at me with those fervent gray eyes.

“Please, Elena,” he repeated.

“Don’t speak to her.” Tyler stepped between us, blocking my view, and ordered the guards to take Kade to the

cells for the night. “Don’t let him leave until I return in the morning to personally banish him from the territory,” he snarled. “Hopefully he has learned his lesson by then.”

“Wait!” I placed my hand on Tyler’s arm. “But he wasn’t-”

“He came back to hurt you-likely on his wife’s wishes,” Tyler’s voice echoed through our mindlink. “As Alpha, it’s my duty to end this once and for all before you get seriously hurt.”

I stared up at Tyler, but he held my gaze steadily. I knew that look all too well; I had seen it on Samson’s face, and my own, more than once. It was the kind of look that screamed a stubborn refusal to back down.
