Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

He was… gorgeous. Like, model from a magazine kind of gorgeous. Tall, dark-haired, deep brown eyes that seemed to see straight through me. And even through the layers he wore, I could tell that he was built like a statue of a god.

My cheeks instantly warmed under his gaze like I was some kind of awestruck schoolgirl who had never seen a handsome man before. Ava chuffed with amusement, but I ignored her and stepped back, forcing myself to calm down. He was just a man. A stranger who just happened to catch me when I almost fell.

“Sorry about that,” he said. His deep voice was as smooth as butter. “Let me make it up to you.”

Reaching out, he pulled the green dress off the shelf and gently laid it on top of the pile in my arms. I could barely see him now over the mound of dresses I was holding.

“Um… Thank you.”

“Elena. What are you doing? I don’t have all day, you know.”

Natasha suddenly appeared in my peripheral, already holding multiple shopping bags packed full of items she’d purchased. Blushing furiously by now, I quickly excused myself and hurried into the dressing room, all the while chiding myself inwardly for feeling so flustered by a random man in a shop.

By the time I tried on the green dress, though, I had all but forgotten about the stranger. The dress fit perfectly- it nipped in at the waist just so to create a beautiful shape, and the train and trailing sleeves made me feel regal. Every bit the daughter of a powerful Alpha. I decided that I simply had to have it, and emerged from the dressing room without even trying on the others.

Natasha was waiting for me outside the fitting room, tapping her foot impatiently. I didn’t see the man anywhere.

“I think I’ll take this one,” I said to the shopkeeper, who beamed and pulled out her card reader.

“Hold on a minute.” Natasha dropped her bags and marched over to me. She snatched the dress away and gasped when she inspected the price tag, then shoved it in my face. “This is far too expensive! I won’t let you take advantage of my husband like this. Pick something else, or pay for it yourself.”

My heart sank when I saw the price. I supposed I’d gotten so caught up in everything that I hadn’t thought to check, and it was definitely too expensive to ask even my father to pay for—especially because I knew he would buy it in a heartbeat.

It was definitely too expensive for me to afford, too, so I sighed and pulled out one of the other, plainer dresses from the rack. “I’ll take this one instead-”

“Actually,” the shopkeeper cut in, “that gentleman who just left already covered your bill. You’re all set.”

My eyes widened. I wanted to think she was fucking with me, that maybe this was a setup planned by Natasha, but it was real. The shopkeeper showed me the receipt and everything; that man, that stranger, had simply paid for the dress in advance and left. He didn’t even say anything to me.

“Well, then.” Natasha huffed and grabbed her things. “Lucky you. Let’s hurry up and get home.”

When we arrived back at the house, my head was still reeling from the whole ordeal. I wanted to thank the man

and offer to pay him back, but I had no idea who he was. The shopkeeper didn’t have his name. He hadn’t even left so much as a note. It was as if I had been visited by my fairy godfather or something.
