By the time I got to the part about the Moon Goddess’s domain, I was certain they wouldn’t believe me. And frankly, as I said everything out loud for the first time, I couldn’t even fully believe myself.

“I don’t know,” I said when I was finished, shaking my head. “Maybe it was all a hallucination. Maybe I need medicine-”

“It wasn’t a hallucination.”

My eyes snapped up from my lap to look at Samson, whose face had gone ashen. He took a deep breath, licking his lips, then said softly, “My great-grandmother had a similar experience.”

“What?”

“It’s true,” Samson said, sitting up a little straighter. “My great-grandmother, Mara, was reborn into a new body after death. No one’s entirely certain why, but it’s believed in my family that it was due to her witch bloodline.”

Tyler nodded. “I remember this story. I’ll be honest, I never fully believed it-just figured it was an old wives’ tale. But now…” He gave me a meaningful look.

I let out a sigh of relief. “So you believe me. About everything.”

“We do believe you.” Samson reached over and took my hand in his. Tyler took the other. “And thank you for telling us the truth. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe, Samantha.”

Their genuine trust and sympathy brought tears to my eyes. No one had ever cared for me so unconditionally before-not even my own family.

Somehow, in this moment… Tyler and Samson felt like my real family. I knew it was a ridiculous notion, but it was also strangely comforting to pretend.

However, Samson’s face darkened. “But I suspect my darling wife had something to do with Alpha Kade’s appearance this morning,” he muttered. “I’ll be having a talk with her lat-”

“Elena! Darling!” Natasha suddenly swept into the room as if summoned by Samson’s words. Her face was pale, her hair disheveled like she’d rushed here. Samson and Tyler had whisked me home from the diner before she had shown up. “I just heard about the incident-I had no idea-”

Samson and Tyler’s eyes narrowed at her, but before she could finish, Samson’s Beta entered the room with his phone in his hands.

“Alpha, pardon the interruption,” he said, “but I have Alpha Kade’s Beta on the line. He’s calling to propose a trade agreement-whatever Nightshade desires…” His eyes flicked to me. “So long as he can take Elena back to Crescent Hollow with him.”

Goddess, I was going to be sick. Kade really wasn’t giving up, was he?

But Tyler and Samson had said they were on my side, and they meant it. Samson shot to his feet, face turning red with anger. “Absolutely not-”

“Whatever Nightshade needs?” Natasha cut him off. “Samson, darling, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And he said the girl is his mate, so you’d be doing them both a favor, wouldn’t you?”

Tyler’s hand tightened around mine. “No,” Samson said, sounding incredulous. He ignored Natasha and turned to his Beta. “Tell Alpha Kade that he’s targeting the wrong person-and to get lost.”

The Beta nodded and scurried away. In the wake of his departure, Samson turned to his wife. “And you, Natasha,” he said, pointing at the Luna, “will mind your own business and stop meddling. If anything happens to Samantha, then you’ll be held accountable. Am I clear?”
