Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Samantha’s POV

“You should try on the blue one. It’ll bring out your eyes.’

I’d never had the chance to attend an event like the Alpha Ball before Kade took me as his slave and my life changed completely. Therefore, it was no wonder that I didn’t know what to wear-or how to prepare for such an

event.

Last night, Samson had asked Lana and her mother to take me out to pick out a dress, and to teach me some basic etiquette before the ball. I found myself standing in one of the pack’s clothing stores in the shopping district this morning with my arms full of dresses to try on.

Before I could react, Lana shoved the blue dress into my hands and wheeled me toward the fitting room with a grin on her face.

“We’ll be waiting!” she said in a sing-song voice before snapping the curtain shut.

I took a deep breath as I hung up the various dresses she and her mother had helped me pick out. They were in all kinds of colors and silhouettes, some girly and some sexy, some short and some long.

All expensive.

But Samson had insisted on giving me the money to pay for whatever dress I wanted, and… If I thought about it too much, I might tear up. I still couldn’t believe that I had somehow stumbled upon this strange life after everything I had been through, surrounded by people who saw me as more of a family than my own ever did.

I decided to try on the blue dress first, because it really was pretty; it was a long and silky number, and when I slipped it on, it hugged my new curves in all the right places.

I couldn’t help but gasp softly as I turned to look at myself in the mirror. The dress fit perfectly, the structured bodice nipping in at the waist and pushing up my breasts just so. The silk looked like liquid running down my legs and flaring out slightly at the ankles, and the thin straps showed off my arms.

Arms which had gotten more muscular over the past few weeks already

It felt as if, slipping into the gown, my entire aura transformed. Gone was the meek and tired ex-slave; I felt more like myself than I had since before Serena and Kade had ruined everything.

When I stepped out of the fitting room, Lana and her mother, Corinne, both clapped their hands excitedly.

“You look like an Alpha!” Lana exclaimed, rushing over to me. “Doesn’t she, Mom?”

Corinne smiled, looking so much like her daughter when she did, and nodded. “Indeed she does. Elena, you really could be a future Alpha-not like a wolfless rogue at all.”

I knew it was supposed to be a compliment, but it still stung. I was meant to be an Alpha-but that was quite literally a lifetime ago.

“Are you okay?” Lana touched my arm and tilted her head, black braids falling across her shoulder with the motion. “You’re tearing up.”

I shook my head and forced a smile, but before I could reassure her, a familiar voice cut through the store music.

“I thought I heard you were going to the ball, but I didn’t think it was true. How do you even know they’ll let you in?”

Lana ground her teeth and whirled around just as Melvin’s daughter, Beth, walked into view flanked by her two friends. The sight of her made my spine stiffen; she had apparently inherited her mother’s beauty-I couldn’t deny that her golden hair and slender figure and perfect green eyes weren’t stunning-but she was every bit as ugly and cruel inside as her father.

“What do you want, Beth?” Lana growled.
