Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Samantha’s POV

The crowd, which had just been cheering and applauding, went silent. All that could be heard was the click of Natasha’s heels on the floor as she slowly strode before us and came to stand at the edge of the circle with her hands clasped in front of her.

“Tyler, come with me. You too, rogue.’

A ripple of murmurs worked its way through the crowd at the way she said that last word. Kade’s fingers tightened around his empty cup.

Tyler hung his head and took my hand, pulling me along. Natasha turned and strode ahead of us. I could feel Kade’s eyes burning into the back of my head the whole way, but thankfully, he didn’t say a word or try to come after me. Small mercies, I supposed.

A few moments later, we found ourselves stepping into a private bathroom off the main ballroom. The sounds of the party became muffled when Natasha shut and locked the door firmly, and I let out a small breath of relief at the cool air and the solitude.

But when the Luna turned to face us, and I saw that her calm expression from earlier had faded, replaced by trembling lips and fiery eyes, my fear returned ten times over.

“Tyler, what the hell were you thinking?” she scolded, ripping her handkerchief out of her pocket. I watched as she stormed across the room and wet the handkerchief in the sink with cold water, then began furiously scrubbing at the wine stains on Tyler’s white collar. “Getting drunk in public like that is not becoming of a future Alpha of Nightshade!”

Tyler continued to hang his head in shame. “I’m sorry, Mother. It’s my fault. I let my competitive streak get the best of me. But when Alpha Kade challenged me, how could I say no? I couldn’t let him dance with Samantha against her will.”

Natasha snapped her gaze over to where I was standing by the door, wringing my hands. Her eyes flicked over me with obvious disdain, and her lip curled when she spotted the sauce stains on my dress.

Little did she know that the stains had been put there by someone else who hated me. Rather intentionally, might I add.

But she only saw what she wanted to see-an unruly troublemaker who didn’t belong in her pack. Or around her son, for that matter.

“Well, I assume you aren’t innocent in this matter,” Natasha hissed, to no surprise of mine. “Why must you get involved in everything bad that happens around here lately, girl?”
