Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Elena’s POV

The thud of my fist against the straw-filled training dummy was a satisfying distraction. Ever since my encounter with the rogues last week, Amelia had been training me more frequently and with more intensity, ensuring that I not only knew how to defend myself, but also how to fight on the offense in case of an emergency.

“That’s it,” Amelia said, guiding me from the sidelines as I practiced my punches. “Just remember, your power comes from your back and shoulder, not your wrist.”

I nodded and continued my work, focusing on the twist of my shoulder. My back muscles felt like an appendage of their own these days-my muscular control was improving by the day.

But as I moved into another right hook, the sound of a nearby voice caught my attention.

“…They’re saying the child is the daughter of a slave, and yet he’s naming her his heir…”

My punch missed entirely. I swung right past the dummy, fist hitting nothing but air, and lost my footing. I stumbled into the dummy and then bounced back on my ass.

Amelia pinched the bridge of her nose. “Elena, what was that…”

But I wasn’t listening anymore. My gaze was fixed on Melvin as he walked by, speaking in hushed tones with one of his Gammas.

“A baby girl born to a slave, becoming the heir of Crescent Hollow? It’s absurd…” the Gamma was saying.

The implications hit me like a brick wall, turning the sounds of their conversation into a dull roar in my ears. A little girl. Born to a slave. The heir of Crescent Hollow.

They were talking about my child—I was sure of it.

Had my baby survived after all? I didn’t think it was possible for so long, and yet hearing it now… I couldn’t ignore it.

Despite Amelia’s protests, I shot to my feet and hurried back to the Alpha House. I found Tyler and Samson in the study. Tyler had just returned from his mission to Crescent Hollow, still wearing his traveling jacket.

“My baby survived!” I blurted out, not bothering with pleasantries.

Tyler and Samson both looked up. Their faces paled, and I realized then that they both knew about it. “You knew!” I said, pointing at them. “You knew, and you didn’t tell me!”

Samson sighed. “We just heard the news. We were discussing whether or not to tell you just now.”

“I heard about it while I was visiting to meet with Kade,” Tyler added. “Elena, we understand that this is important to you, but you have to be practical about this.”

“He named the child his heir,” Samson said. “Which means she’s likely under protection. If we were to try to claim her, it would not only reveal your true identity, but might also start a war. A real war.”

My heart sank. “But… my baby…” I swallowed hard. “Kade’s pack is very traditional. A child born to a slave, motherless no less, might be killed.”

Tyler and Samson exchanged glances. Tyler’s face paled further, but he admitted quietly, “Apparently, someone already tried. They took her into the forest and tried to leave her for the rogues.”

A desperate sound escaped me. I rushed over to Tyler and gripped his jacket lapels in my hands, shaking him. ” Then we have to save her!” The words tumbled out of me in a panic. “I couldn’t bear it if my baby died! Please, I have to go and get her! I-I’ll go tonight! I don’t care if it reveals my identity!”
