Chapter 55
But to my relief, she just stared at me in confusion. “Who the hell are you?”
“I’m a… new recruit,” I replied in a slightly lower voice than usual, keeping my eyes averted. “A Gamma.”
“A Gamma?” She studied me uncertainly in the dim light. “I haven’t heard of any new Omegas.”
“Yes, well that sort of information would be above your pay grade, wouldn’t it?” I blurted out, trying to project as much authority as I could into my voice. “Besides, what are you doing up? The Omegas should be in their bunks, not stealing food from the kitchen.”
Francine blanched slightly. “I, uh… I worked an extra shift today. By rights, I’m allowed a snack.”
I scoffed. “Whatever. Just get back to your bunk and stop harassing your superiors.”
Francine stared at me for a moment in disbelief, but I maintained my composure, even though my heart was pounding. Thankfully, she finally stepped aside and lowered her gaze.
“Yes, ma’am.”
I curled my lip at her and slipped away. Quick, but not too quick so as not to look as terrified as I felt.

All of the entrances were locked and guarded, of course, but I managed to slip past the guards and found an open window on the first floor. I climbed through without a sound, slipping into the dark kitchen.
Adjacent to the kitchen was the dining room. I had only ever visited Kade’s room when I came to the Alpha House, but I could tell because I could hear the sounds of voices and scraping cutlery within.
Specifically Kade’s deep voice. And…
Was that Serena I heard?
“Thank you so much for having me over, Kade,” she was saying in a soft, sweet voice. “It’s so nice to finally have some alone time with you…”
Kade said something in response that was too low for me to hear. Curiosity piqued, I crept closer and peered through the crack in the door.
Kade and Serena were sitting at the table, the room only lit by a few candles. They were eating dinner and sipping from glasses of red wine. Serena was dressed in a sexy red dress, hair flowing down her back like liquid gold.
“It is nice,” Kade said as he cut his steak. “And Ivy seems to like you a lot.”
Serena’s lips curved. “Well, I would hope so. In the future, I’d hope for her to accept me like her own mother.”
I felt a pang in my chest as I realized what was happening. As twins, Serena and I were both eligible to be Kade’s
