Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Perhaps she had come here to get pregnant with a strong baby before her marriage to Tyler.

Kade hated the way his chest ached at the thought.

“My, you really do like her,” Ghost chortled.

“That’s enough. I don’t like her. I’m simply concerned about a scheming woman using my seed to produce a bastard heir for another pack.”

“Would you prefer if she used your seed to produce a second heir for Crescent Hollow instead?”

Of course not. Ivy was Kade’s one and only heir. Even if he produced more children, with Elena or Serena or anyone else, Ivy would always be the one who would one day lead the pack. Kade had already made that decision; she was his firstborn, alive against all odds. His only light in the darkness.

Kade just didn’t know what to think about any of this.

But he could feel his resolve crumbling as the situation became more apparent. Serena’s father was looking at him, waiting for him to make a decision. Priscilla and Alistair were adamant that Elena was not to be trusted. And frankly, Kade didn’t trust her, either. He never had, but he especially didn’t now.

Meanwhile, Serena… She had never given him a reason not to trust her. He had known her since childhood, and she had always been quiet and kind. It only made sense to make her his Luna. She was Samantha’s twin. They shared a bond.

Furthermore, Ivy seemed to love Serena, and Serena loved Ivy. Kade wouldn’t have to worry about Ivy’s safety. Serena wouldn’t scheme to get Ivy out of the picture so she could prop up her own children.

Finally, Kade made a decision.

“Fine,” he said, turning to Jack and Margaret, although the latter didn’t seem to notice his presence at all. “I won’t postpone the wedding further.”

Jack looked relieved. Before Kade could react, he crossed the room and clasped Kade’s hand in both of his, shaking it firmly. “You won’t regret this, Alpha Kade. This union will be extremely beneficial for all involved.”

Kade’s upper lip curled, but it wasn’t a smile. With that, Jack grabbed Margaret by the wrist and pulled her out of the room, bidding Kade goodnight. Margaret’s red-rimmed eyes met Kade’s briefly, and she whispered, “My daughter…”

And then they were gone.

The moment they were alone, Alistair reached into his pocket and withdrew a small envelope. He stood and hobbled over to Kade, leaning on his cane, and handed it to him.

“Here. You’ll need this, if you’re going to make Serena your wife.”

“You won’t regret this, Alpha,” Priscilla said as Kade opened the envelope.

What was inside made Kade’s heart stop in his chest. He tilted the envelope, letting the ring inside fall onto his palm.

It was a simple but beautiful ring, silver, engraved with the phases of the moon. The finely cut moonstone set into it caught the light of the fire, almost seeming to glow from within.

“My mother’s engagement ring,” Kade muttered, glancing at the Elders. “I thought she was buried with this.”
