Zachary Houston pulled out the chair across from Jasper and sat right down without
hesitation.
Jasper’s silence was pretty much an agreement to Zachary’s assumption.
“What happened, hm? Let’s give it a listen. I’ve been with all sorts of women, so there’s no one who knows more about them than me,” Zachary said.
Jasper’s gaze darkened. Seconds later, he said quietly, “She didn’t answer any she mad at me?”
“What did you do?”

“That’s not important.” Jasper wasn’t going to reveal such information to this twisted bastard.
“Suit yourself. But how long has it been since she stopped responding to you? If it’s only been
a short period of time, then she’s probably busy. But if she hasn’t responded to you in days, then that means something is going on between the two of you,” Zachary replied.
“What would it be?”
Zachary couldn’t help but roll his eyes. What kind of question was that?
“The very classic ‘silent treatment,”” Zachary answered.
The moment he said that, he felt the atmosphere in the office grow overwhelmingly oppressive.
Zachary rubbed his shoulders. It was so cold in here. He should really leave right now.
Louisa stretched her arms around midday, feeling somewhat tired from gaming. Someone knocked on the bedroom door just then.
She thought it was Maryanne Cole, the housekeeper. But Jasper’s low, magnetic voice rang out in the next instant. “Lou.”
Was Jasper home?
Louisa went to open the door, then gazed at him curiously with her wide eyes. He never used to knock before entering the room.
He was wearing a black suit today, giving off a refined, mysterious air.
“It’s time for lunch,” Jasper said quietly.

Louisa nodded and walked out of the room after Him. Lunch had already been prepared for them, and all of the food was Louisa’s favorites.
“Thank you, Maryanne!” Louisa thanked.
Louisa had hated the Hayes family and everything about them in her previous life after being forced to marry Jasper, including the help who worked here. But this time, Louisa wasn’t going to disappoint them anymore.
Maryanne smiled. “I’m just glad you like it.”
She felt a little puzzled, however. Didn’t Louisa know that Jasper was the one who had asked Maryanne to cook these dishes?
Louisa suddenly noticed a small box on the dining table. “What’s this?”
“Open it up and have a look,” Maryanne said with a smile.
Louisa opened the box, and her eyes lit up instantly. It was a cake from her favorite bakery in
town.
“You’re so good to me, Maryanne!” Louisa felt incredibly touched, thinking Maryanne was the one who’d bought the cake for her.
Maryanne was about to tell Louisa the truth when Jasper suddenly gave her a look, so Maryanne had no choice but to shut up.
Louisa happily finished eating her cake before starting on the rest of the spread.
Jasper gave her a piece of fish fillet she liked, but Louisa instantly set her cutlery down and said, “I’m full now.”
He paused slightly, thinking Louisa was pulling away from him. An invisible vice seemed to grip around his heart the moment he thought about how Louisa might never smile at him or talk to him anymore. The pain was suffocating.
“Lou, were you the one who bought the herbs meant to help with insomnia for me?” Jasper asked quietly,
Did Jasper see the herbs, then?
Louisa was still angry over what had happened yesterday. Even though she knew Jasper wouldn’t be trusting of her in such a short amount of time, she hadn’t expected him to have such a high level of distrust for her.
“They’re no longer for you! Where did you put the sachet? Give it back to me,” Louisa said on
purpose.
