Chapter 24
Jasper’s voice was commanding but carried a teasing, indulgent warmth.
Jealousy flared in Estelle’s eyes, and resentment twisted in her chest.
Louisa didn’t deserve Jasper’s attention. Once Jasper saw the difference between them, he’d know who really mattered.
“Jas, you’re the best,” Louisa said with a playful grin. She shot Timothy a mock pout after he nudged her foot and dropped a leaf of lettuce on Jasper’s plate.
“Give Jasper some meat too,” Timothy said.
“Mr. Lowe, I like lettuce,” Jasper replied calmly.
“Oh, I see…” Timothy thought to himself that Jasper’s tastes were really something else. He didn’t press the matter further.
After dinner, Estelle brought up staying over yet again.
However, Timothy figured it wasn’t necessary. Jasper’s obvious favoritism toward Louisa had already been clear during the meal.
But Estelle had no shame at all. She clung to Louisa’s arm and kept acting cute, to the point where Louisa felt goosebumps rise all over her skin.
Fine. Since Estelle wanted to stick around and humiliate herself, there was no need for Louisa
to hold back
“There are plenty of guest rooms upstairs. If you want to stay for a few days, go ahead,”
Louisa said.
Estelle’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, Louisa. I’ll keep you company at home from now on.”
As she spoke, she exchanged a look with Rosie.
Rosie smiled warmly and left together with Timothy after they said their goodbyes.
Louisa asked Maryanne to take Estelle upstairs. Catching the look in Louisa’s eyes, Maryanne knew exactly what to do and led Estelle to the innermost room, which was far from the main bedroom.
Only then did Louisa turn back to Jasper and hold out her hand. “Where are my herbs?”
Jasper hadn’t expected her to still be so fixated on the herbs.
“Lou.” His well-defined fingers closed around her hand, his voice soft and intimate. He gently lifted her chin. “I was wrong. Don’t be mad at me anymore, okay?”

His warm breath brushed against her skin, and Louisa felt her legs nearly go weak. But she still put on a fierce expression. “Hand over the herbs!
Jasper pressed his lips together and fell silent for a few seconds before he finally told someone to go out to the car and bring the sachet of herbs in.
He tried to say something else, but Louisa had already taken the sachet and headed into the kitchen. When she came back out, she saw Jasper sitting on the couch, his handsome face carrying a hint of quiet disappointment.
After all, that had been the first gift Louisa had ever given him. It should have been something he treasured and kept forever. Instead, it had been taken back.
