Rosie came upstairs supporting an elderly woman, who raised her cane and swung it viciously at Louisa. Luckily, Louisa dodged in time. If it had landed, she would have been in pain for days.

Estelle, who was watching from the side, wished that their grandmother could just beat Louisa to death.

“Grandma, why are you here?” Louisa asked, her expression tightening when she saw the

woman.

The elderly woman wore a dark navy dress. She was short but broad-shouldered, with a small face and sharp, harsh features. Her eyes were cold and intimidating, unsettling just to look at.

“Am I not allowed to be here?” Ava Morgan snapped.

“Estelle just wants your old clothes, and you won’t even let her? You ungrateful brat. I’ll beat you to death!” She raised her cane again, fury written all over her face.

Rosie quickly stepped in to calm her, saying, “Ava, don’t be angry. Louisa’s just not used to all this luxury yet. After all, she’s only just moved into the Hayes residence. She’s probably holding on to these things because it’s all so new to her.”

But her attempt to calm things only poured fuel on the fire. Her words clearly accused Louisa of forgetting where she came from just because she was marrying into the Hayes family.

Ava grew even angrier now. “Everyone, listen to me. Move all the clothes out today. Let’s see if she dares say a single word.”

Estelle’s eyes lit up instantly, and she shot Louisa a smug glance.

Louisa knew Ava all too well. She’d grown up with her parents, and Ava hadn’t looked after her at all. Every time her parents had dropped by to visit, they had brought a mountain of gifts. Even so, Ava had constantly been cruel to Louisa’s mother, Lucy Jennings, raining insults down on her again and again.

Back then, Louisa had been too young to understand. Only when she grew up did she realize just how vicious those words had been.

Even Maryanne felt a pang of sympathy for Louish. What kind of unreasonable old hag was this?

But this was another family’s drama. As the housekeeper, she dared not get involved. After a moment’s thought, she hurried off to contact Jasper.

Estelle immediately nodded, urging everyone to move faster. Delight bloomed in her chest. With Ava here today, she would see if Louisa still dared to argue.

Just then, a sharp, crisp voice sliced through the commotion. “Imagine when everyone finds out that Mrs. Hayes’ family is just leeching off the Hayeses, taking everything and sending it straight back to her parents. I wonder what they’ think.”
