Everyone turned their heads toward the sound, only to see Chloe Hughes lying flat on the

ground like a pancake. The ridiculously awkward scene instantly triggered a round of

laughter across the hall.

Emily Carter couldn’t help but mock, “Damn, Chloe, was that your big performance for the

night? Gotta admit, pretty entertaining!”

Zoey Mitchell stood frozen, completely flustered. She’d just turned around and had no idea

what had actually happened, her mind drawing a blank.

“Wait, what are you doing…” she muttered as she kept shooting nervous glances at Chloe,

silently begging her to say something – anything–but please don’t just sit there like a deer in

headlights.

Chloe hadn’t seen this backfire coming at all. Her face flushed with embarrassment and fury

as she glared hard at Amelia Johnson. “It was you! You tripped me on purpose just now!”

“Huh? I was just fixing my dress. The hem’s huge, didn’t you see it? You really stepped on that

by accident?” Amelia looked adorably innocent, her big sparkling eyes blinking as if she

couldn’t hurt a fly.

Everyone nodded. That dress was seriously massive–no way a person with working eyes

could miss it.

Unless… they meant to ignore it.

Almost all eyes, now full of contempt, shifted toward Chloe.

“No, I swear it was Amelia! She really tripped me!” Chloe, red–eyed and flustered, struggled to

defend herself as she looked desperately at Zoey.

Snapping out of her daze, Zoey quickly chimed in, nodding frantically. “Yes, exactly! I saw it-

it was Amelia who tripped her on purpose!”

“She’s never liked Chloe, that’s why she did it!”

Since Zoey seemed so firm and serious, a few people started second–guessing Amelia’s

intentions.
