Chapter 119 Scream
“Ah-”
A sharp scream echoed, snapping everyone’s attention toward Chloe Hughes, who had just taken a hard fall. The way she landed was anything but graceful–pure mess.
And the culprit? None other than Sabrina Johnson. She’d already pulled her foot back and was now pretending to be all concerned, grabbing Chloe’s hand. “Oh no, are you okay? How did you trip like that?”
Truth was, she meant to step on Amelia Johnson’s dress to set her up, but right when she tried, Amelia sped up. So instead, she ended up stepping on Chloe’s hem by accident.
Falling flat in front of all these people? Nothing more embarrassing than that.
Chloe bolted toward the restroom, red–faced, with Sabrina chasing right after. Amelia had caught Sabrina’s little trick from the corner of her eye and dodged just in time. She knew Sabrina and Chloe were obsessed with squeezing into high society, dying to mingle with the rich girls. But since she was here too, she’d make sure that wasn’t going to happen. Let them stew a little.
Not long after, the showcase segment of the party began.
At this event, not everyone got to perform–it was saved for those with true status.
“I’ll pass. Better to give someone else a chance.” The girl speaking was one of the socialites who’d previously mocked Chloe.
This was Lily Carter from the Carter family–the kind of name that got automatic invites. Seeing as her aunt was hosting the party, she was offered the first slot to perform, but she didn’t really want to bother.
So she pointed at Chloe. “How about you? You seem like you enjoy being in the “Me?” Sabrina’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and she stepped forward instant
Lily frowned. She had clearly meant Chloe. Was this girl blind?
Thing is, Sabrina didn’t miss the point–she just hijacked the moment. All she wanted was shot to shine in front of these socialites. If she could impress them, she might just land

herself a rich boyfriend. She liked Ethan Collins, sure, but if someone better came along.
well… she was open to prospects.
Lily gave Sabrina a sideways glance, totally unimpressed. Something about these two rubbed
her the wrong way–too fake, maybe.
Whatever. If one of the two wanted to make a fool of herself first, she wasn’t going to stop
her.
Sabrina looked thrilled to be handed the spotlight. She strode onto the stage, gave a polite
bow, all poised and proper–for now.
Not far off, Zoey Mitchell had just spotted Amelia again after failing to find her earlier.
“Amelia, your sis is clearly way more talented than you. You got any skills or what?” Zoey
said with a smirk.
Amelia just smiled without answering. She thought to herself, “Yeah, more than you could
guess.”
But Zoey took the silence as a yes, and her sneer got even nastier. “Country bumpkin, please
-how’re you even trying to compete?”
Up on stage, Sabrina walked over to the piano, about to start her piece, when suddenly, Lily
waved her hand and had it swapped out–for a guitar.
Sabrina froze, completely dumbfounded. “Wait… what’s going on…”
“Hey, Sabrina, don’t you not know how to play the guitar? Why not let your sister take over?
You’re siblings after all–same thing, right?” Zoey chimed in loudly.
Clearly still salty from getting ignored by Amelia earlier, Zoey was quick to toss her straight
into the line of fire. Little did they know, this wasn’t a trap for Amelia Johnson at all.

Lily pouted. “Auntie, she hasn’t even played yet! I’ve been learning the guitar lately, and trust me, it’s super hard. If you haven’t practiced for at least a couple years, you can’t even get through a full song…”
