Just to make sure nothing went off script, as soon as they got to Harmonia Mall, Sabrina pulled Rachel aside to go over the plan again. “We agreed yesterday, remember? We’ve gotta put Amelia Johnson in her place. Don’t tell me you forgot.”
Rachel originally didn’t want to go along with it, but her eyes flicked slyly and she stuck out her hand. “Give me that bracelet of yours, and I’m in.”
Sabrina gasped. Was Rachel seriously trying to negotiate with her right now?
Rachel shrugged. “Fine, don’t wanna give it? Then forget it.”
Left with no choice, Sabrina reluctantly took off her bracelet and handed it over, her voice cold as ice. You better follow through, or I’ll tell my mom and aunt everything.
Holding the bracelet like it was treasure, Rachel looked like she’d just won the lottery. “Relax, I got this!”
Watching Rachel bounce around all happy, Sabrina really wanted to smack her. She gritted her teeth and shot another dagger glance at Amelia, who had done nothing and still looked calm as ever. What the hell had those two even talked about? Rachel, that i***t, flipping sides like it was nothing.
The three of them strolled around aimlessly for a bit, when suddenly Sabrina pointed ahead and said she wanted to check something out–which just so happened to lead them right into Ethan Collins.
Wow… could she be more obvious with this fake ‘coincidence‘?
Amelia knew exactly what was going on, gave Ethan a barely–there glance, then casually reached for a pretty crystal swan on the display.
Ethan wasn’t as good–looking as Damien Taylor, but he still cleaned up well–definitely not bad to look at. Rachel was basically entranced. If Sabrina hadn’t nudged her, she might’ve just kept staring.
“Quit drooling,” Sabrina snapped in a whisper. “If you mess this up, the bracelet’s mine again.”
Rachel immediately clutched her wrist protectively and nodded like crazy. Then she walked up to Ethan, finally pulling his attention away from Amelia.
“This is the ex–fiancé you told me about, huh?” Rachel said sweetly to Amelia. “He really is a total catch. Why’d you even break up with him? Seriously, he’s such a gem–don’t tell me you regret it now. Wait, actually, I bet you already do, right?”
Ethan’s eyes lit up–he was clearly buying it. He turned to Amelia with a smile. “Summer, it’s okay. I get it. You just needed a break, didn’t you? Let’s just get back together, okay?”
Amelia was over it. She didn’t even want to engage.
Rachel pressed further, her tone fake–soft. “Come on, Amelia, look at Ethan. He’s practically boyfriend of the year. What more could you want? Aunt Grace always says we should be content with what we have. So don’t be stubborn–just say yes and make up with him!”
Amelia’s eyes turned cold. She tightened her grip on the crystal swan for a second… then slowly let go.
Rachel, this is your first time meeting Ethan, right?”
