Rachel’s face instantly turned bright red–come on, it’s not every day she gets to hold hands with a hot
guy.
Ethan quickly pulled his hand back with a look of pure irritation. When his eyes landed on Amelia, the hurt in them was obvious. He really couldn’t get why she’d say something like that… Was she punishing him?
But the one who seemed the most pissed off was Sabrina. She was glaring at Rachel like she wanted to drill holes into her with her eyes.
“Heh, Rachel, you really know how to ruin the mood. Was that necessary right now?” Sabrina’s tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Rachel blinked, shocked. “But I just thought-”
“Alright, alright, enough. Let’s just eat. I’ll get you something you like,” Sabrina cut her off and gave Rachel a sharp pinch to shut her up. She then pulled Amelia along with her.
Ethan trailed silently behind Amelia. Ever since his grandpa lectured him, he’d made up his mind–this time, he was going to win her over with honesty.
They had just stepped into the restaurant and were about to sit down when a man in a black ski mask suddenly burst in wielding a weapon. All the customers screamed and scattered in a panic. Some mom grabbed her kid and bolted. The whole place was chaos.
Amelia was about to run too when she heard Sabrina screaming for help. Then, out of nowhere, she got shoved hard to the ground. When she looked up, the guy with the knife was standing right over her.
That blade pointed straight at her throat.
She froze, her entire body tensing up. One wrong move, and things could go very badly.
Ethan heard Sabrina’s voice and instinctively turned around–just in time to see her push Amelia straight into the guy’s path. He was stunned, speechless.
“Sabrina, what the hell are you doing?!”
Sabrina flinched at Ethan’s shout, suddenly realizing she’d messed up big time.
Rachel just stood there frozen, like someone had hit pause.
Luckily, the cashier reacted fast and pulled the three of them behind the counter. “Can you not start drama right now? Let’s stay alive first, save the arguing for later!”
At that moment, the cops finally arrived.
“We’ve got a female hostage near the kitchen. Three other customers and an employee are safe behind the counter for now.”
“Bring in the negotiation team, quick!”
“And start clearing out the rest of the restaurants nearby!”

Seeing the police calmed Ethan down a little, but he was still a wreck inside, eyes glued on Amelia, helpless and worried.

Cornered with a knife to her neck, Amelia’s skin stung from the blade’s pressure. Terrified? Sure. But panicking? Not really.
In fact, the guy holding her was shaking all over, probably freaking out now that he knew he was surrounded and out of options.
“Hey… don’t panic,” she said calmly.
The iman glared at her. For someone in danger, she was… unusually composed. Kinda impressive, honestly. “If they don’t let me go, you’re gonna die with me!” he shouted.
Amelia tilted her head slightly, her tone still steady. “You’ve got a ring on your hand. Judging by the wear, you’ve had it for almost ten years, right?”
“This has nothing to do with you!” he barked back. Hearing the change in the man’s tone, Amelia Johnson felt even more certain–his wife was the key. She kept trying to reason with him, gently saying, “I can tell you really love your wife. If she saw you like this, she’d be heartbroken.”
Amelia grew more confident, continuing, “I truly believe people aren’t born bad. You must have your reasons for doing this, right? If you’re stuck, maybe I can help.”
“No, please don’t do this,” Amelia quickly said. “If you really take me with you, it’ll only make things worse for you. If you go to jail for years, what happens to your wife? Who’s going to be there for her?”
“Then… what should I do?”
“There’s only one way–let me go and turn yourself in,” Amelia said calmly. “You haven’t hurt anyone. There’s still a chance to make things right,”
Just as he seemed ready to give up, Sabrina Johnson suddenly stood up and shouted, “You piece of trash! Let go of my sister right now of the cops will blow your brains out! Even if you escape with her, you’ve got zero chancel”
She went on, yelling. “Do you even know what you’ve done? You sent an old lady to the hospital out of fright! You’re done for. Death penalty incoming. The internet’s gonna rip you apart! And your family? They’ll bear the shame forever!”
Even the cops outside were stunned. Who the hell was this loose cannon?
“Get that woman out of there before she pushes him over the edge!”
The man’s eyes sharpened again, anger boiling up. Sabrina’s words echoed in his head, and panic set in Tast
