Ethan’s gaze flickered before he nodded hard. “If you don’t believe me, I’ll swear on it.” He even mimicked a vow gesture… and then just left it there.

Amelia didn’t reply. She just smiled sweeter, but her eyes were all sarcasm.

Ethan nervously swallowed. Then, hesitant, he muttered, “Okay… I swear if I don’t answer Amelia truthfully, then… I won’t be able to catch the bus!”

She actually snorted a laugh.

He looked encouraged, thinking he finally broke the ice – only for her expression to turn

frosty again.

“That’s your idea of sincerity?”

“No no no!” Ethan shook his head like crazy. “I–I mean it! Fine, if I lie, then…”

“Get struck by lightning,” Amelia cut in, her tone as cold as ice.

Ethan stared at her, completely stunned. In that moment, she felt like a stranger to him. Not

the Amelia he once knew – not even close.

harsh just now, I-”

“I don’t wanna talk right now. Just leave.“After being completely humiliated by Amelia Johnson, Ethan Collins felt like he just got slapped in the face–hard. The fire boiling in his chest had nowhere to go because, annoyingly, everything Amelia said was true.
