Chapter 163 Float lanterns
Claim
On the night of the Mid–Autumn Festival, after everyone had their share of mooncakes, Oliver
Foster was the one to suggest they head to the riverside to float lanterns.
But just before they left, Amelia Johnson suddenly tugged Damien Taylor aside for a quick
photo together–she said she wanted to post it on her Moments.
It was actually the first time Amelia had ever made such a request, so Damien was over the
moon. After all, being featured on her feed meant something… or so he thought.
Truth was, Amelia had other reasons for doing it.
The moon hung bright and full in the sky.
There was quite the crowd along the riverbank, villagers lighting candles and setting their
lanterns afloat. Little flickers danced on the water, nestled in colorful lotus–shaped boats,
carrying everyone’s heartfelt wishes downstream.
Oliver glanced around. “Sis, let’s head over there–it’s less crowded.”
Amelia nodded in agreement.
The group moved a bit downriver, settling into a quieter spot. Oliver then pulled out the
lanterns he’d prepped earlier–one for each person.
“First, make a wish. Then light the candle. After that, let it float. Easy!”
Amelia held the pen, paused, then scribbled down her wish. She looked at Damien and asked,
“You done writing?”
But Damien only raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you gonna ask me what I wished for?”
Amelia blinked. “What do you mean? You didn’t even start writing!”
He let out a chuckle, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Oh? So you’ve been keeping an eye on
me this whole time? Planning to sneak a peek at my wish?”
Caught red–handed, Amelia’s face turned a shade pinker. “No way! That’s not it–don’t be
ridiculous!”
“Hey, tell me yours, and I’ll tell you mine.” Damien coaxed her with a slight grin.

Amelia pouted. Truth be told, she really was curious.
“But wishes don’t come true if you say them out loud.”

“Says who?” Damien responded, dead serious, giving off total teacher–vibes. “If you keep a
wish to yourself, chances are it won’t happen. But if you tell…“–he pointed at himself—“me,
then it totally will.”
Amelia was baffled. That sounded like nonsense… but kinda made sense? I mean, it’s Damien
Taylor–he can make anything happen.
Then Damien added, “You know how Santa doesn’t actually exist? It’s always parents who
buy the gifts, or husbands for their wives.”
Husbands and wives?
That made Amelia’s heartbeat go haywire. Before she could overthink it, she blurted out her wish, “I wish for the people I love–and who love me–to stay healthy and happy.”
Simple and sincere. So Amelia.
Damien smiled softly. “Alright. Now it’s my turn.”
Amelia leaned in, her eyes practically sparkling. In her head, she was thinking: someone like Damien’s probably got some big, world–peace–level wish waiting.
But she was way off.
“I’m giving you my wish. So you get a free shot at making another one,” Damien said as he turned slightly, his gaze gentle and unwavering.
Her eyes widened. It took her a few seconds to process what he said. “But…”
“Meeting you was already the biggest wish I ever wanted. And it came true,” Damien said.
Amelia looked up–and got completely lost in those deep, affectionate eyes. In that moment, it felt like her entire world narrowed down to just him.
“What are you two doing over there, lovebirds? Everyone else’s lanterns are already out!”

“Exactly, exactly, you’re totally right!” Liam nodded along, then clapped her on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, if your wish doesn’t come true, just let me know. I’ll make it happen myself!”
