uncontrollably, nearly collapsing from the shock. Amelia quickly caught her, worry written all
over her face.
“Mom, what happened? Why did Dad suddenly get so much worse?”
Daniel Foster’s health had only started declining in recent years, but being rushed into
emergency care? This was a first.
Hannah choked on her tears as she tried to explain. It took her a good five minutes, her
words broken and gasping, before Amelia finally pieced the story together.
The moment she understood what Grace Williams had done, Amelia’s fury exploded from
within. Even her fingertips were trembling.
Grace had officially crossed the line.
“Amelia!”
Damien Taylor arrived just in time, thanks to his connection with the hospital’s director. When
Amelia saw him, her eyes welled up, but she quickly held herself together–Hannah needed
her to be strong.
“Don’t worry, Mom. Damien’s here. He’ll make sure Dad gets the best doctors. He’s gonna pull
through just fine.”
Only then did Hannah’s panicked expression ease a little. But she still didn’t take her eyes off
the red light above the operating room, silently praying.
An hour later, Daniel finally made it through the emergency. He was unconscious, but stable.
Damien went to speak with the attending physician, then came back to update Amelia. “It’s
his age. That’s why his heart gave out. He just needs some new medication and proper rest.
He should be okay after a while.”
Amelia breathed a huge sigh of relief and clung to Damien’s arm.
Only then did she feel a bit less on edge.
“Thank God you’re here.”

Damien gently pulled her into his arms and spoke softly, “No matter what happens, I’ve got
you. Always. And this thing…”
Amelia shook her head. “First, help my parents find a place to stay. It’s not often they come
here.”
As for Grace… she could handle her solo for now.
Damien kissed her forehead, eyes full of support. “Leave it to me. Just do whatever you need
to–don’t hold back.”
That one sentence was her strongest armor, her unwavering backup.
Her eyes, dark and beautiful, lit up again with determination.
At a swanky restaurant, Grace Williams was bragging to a few well–dressed ladies about how
she kicked out Amelia’s adoptive parents.
Her tone was smug. “Pfft, if you’d been there, you’d have seen it. Those two bumpkins
actually faked being sick to get money from me. Seriously, who do they think I am?”
The women chuckled politely, though one of them asked with concern, “But what if one of
them really was sick? What if something bad happened?”
Grace’s smile faded a bit. She scoffed, raising her chin like a queen. “Then they can blame
themselves. Not my problem.”
The ladies exchanged awkward glances.
“Enough of that depressing stuff,” Grace hurriedly changed the subject with a laugh. “We’re
here to enjoy afternoon tea, aren’t we?”
She hadn’t even planned to go out today, but once her usual mahjong friends invited her to
this fancy place, she jumped at the chance. After all, these days, the Johnsons‘ influence was
rising–these women obviously wanted to get in her good graces.
“You just confessed to attempted murder.”
A cold voice sliced through the air behind her, sending a shiver down Grace’s spine. She
jumped, coffee spilling all over her outfit.Grace Williams spun around in frustration, only to
be met with Amelia Johnson’s razor–sharp gaze brimming with fury–just that look alone

wallet?”
Seeing this, Grace’s face went ghost–white. “You–you know them?!”
