Chapter 214

the corner of the staircase, a girl stepped out in a pale pink gown, her every move light and graceful–like a lotus drifting across still water.

The moment she appeared, the whole banquet hall went silent, every pair of eyes naturally drawn

to her.

Her delicate features were pure and sweet. Her fair skin seemed to glow under the lights, and

those bright, clear eyes under slender brows, almost looked like they could speak.

There was an effortless allure about her, like it came from her very bones–simply born to capture/

attention.

“Is that the bride–to–be? She’s absolutely stunning!”

“Marrying someone like her must be a blessing!”

Guests who weren’t in the know had already mistaken Amelia Johnson for Sabrina Johnson, and

that alone had Sabrina fuming with jealousy.

She gripped Grace Williams‘ sleeve and hissed, “Mom, what the hell is she doing? Trying to steal my spotlight?”

Grace hadn’t expected Amelia to dare pull something like this of all days. She froze, then leaned close to whisper, “Let her do what she wants. She’s just digging her own grave. We’ll just sit back

and watch.”

Today, Zoey Mitchell and Chloe Hughes had also been invited by Sabrina and were already holding a grudge against Amelia. This was the perfect moment to take a jab.

Zoey let out a sarcastic laugh. “Miss Johnson, don’t you think that’s a bit much for today? Dressed like that, people might actually think you’re the bride.”

“No kidding. You’re always trying to outshine Sabrina. But doing this today? Seriously?”

Chloe chimed in quickly. She was still smarting from being cornered by Amelia’s lawyers recently- it had cost her both money and face.

Amelia glanced at Chloe, her voice calm. “Miss Hughes, didn’t learn your lesson last time?”

Chloe immediately went quiet.

“As for you, Miss Mitchell, can you explain what exactly I’ve done wrong? Please spell it out.” Amelia’s eyes locked onto Zoey’s with sharp mockery. “If showing up bare–faced is enough to steal the show, then with you two piling on the makeup like that, what, are you hoping people mistake

you for the bride?”

The whole room gasped. Wait–she hadn’t even put on makeup?

How could someone look this good without even trying?

“Oh right, Miss Mitchell,” Amelia added with a smile, “from what you said, are you basically admitting I look better than Sabrina without even trying?”

Sabrina’s face turned sour. She darted an irritated look at Zoey, silently begging her to stop talking.

But Zoey clearly didn’t care. She smirked, glancing sidelong at Amelia. “There’s something you probably haven’t heard yet. My dad met up with Damien Taylor’s mom yesterday. Had a lovely dinner, super friendly vibe.”

“He even came home raving about it. Said Mrs. Taylor really likes me and wants me to marry into the family as soon as possible!”

Amelia raised a brow and joked, “Wow. Since when did spinning stories out of thin air become your

new skill?”

Knowing Amelia wouldn’t buy it right away, Zoey pulled out her phone and showed a picture–Mr. Mitchell and Evelyn Taylor, seated together, both smiling.

Amelia’s confident look faltered for a second. That… had caught her off guard.

Still, without hearing it directly from Damien, she wasn’t going to take Zoey’s word.

“Oh? Then why didn’t you bring Damien with you? Let him clear it up.”

Zoey’s expression flickered, and she hesitated. “He’s a busy guy, obviously stuck at work.“But before she could even finish talking, Damien Taylor walked into view and instantly shut Zoey Mitchell down. Amelia Johnson let out a mocking laugh. “Miss Mitchell, if you’re gonna make things up, at least do your homework first. Getting exposed this fast? Kinda ruins the fun.”

Zoey’s face turned an ugly shade of red as she snapped, “My dad really did talk to your mom about this engagement! If you don’t believe me, go ask her yourself!”

Damien chimed in calmly, “Yeah, my mom actually thought Mr. Mitchell was Amelia’s adoptive father.” Though his words were for the crowd, his eyes stayed locked on Amelia, full of tenderness only she could read.

He never cared what others thought.

As long as she understood him–that’s all that mattered.

Amelia blinked, a little lost, like she missed something important.

Damien slid his arm around her waist, hooked his finger and lightly flicked her nose, teasing, “What,

Damien shot her a cold glance. Jessica’s stomach dropped, and she instinctively stepped back.

Thankfully, Richard Johnson appeared just in time to ease the tension. “Mr. Taylor already had a word with me earlier. Besides, today’s supposed to be about Sabrina. It’s more than enough that Amelia showed up as the older sister.”

“Amelia, take good care of Mr. Taylor.”

He always said that. Amelia couldn’t stand hearing it anymore. She gave a half–hearted nod and
