Chapter 218
Worried the Collins family might call off the engagement because of what happened, Grace Williams first explained things to Richard Johnson, then repeated everything to Patricia Collins.
“This whole mess is on me. The previous doctor made a wrong diagnosis, so we got our hopes up
for nothing.”
“We only found out a few days ago ourselves. We didn’t even know how to bring it up afraid you’d
all be disappointed.”
By the end of it, Grace’s throat was dry from all the talking. Patricia didn’t give much of a reaction and just said coldly, “Let’s talk about it later.”
Grace put down her phone and gave Sabrina Johnson a helpless shake of her head.
Sabrina felt like she’d been hit in the gut. Her chest burned with a mix of rage and bitterness. The resentment she had for Amelia Johnson only grew stronger.
She clenched her fists.
Why do you always have to ruin everything good in
life? my
If you push me too far, then fine–we’ll both go down together! I won’t let you walk away happy!
At that moment, Amelia Johnson was in great spirits. She was on her way to surprise Damien Taylor. But Damien ended up giving her a completely different kind of “surprise” first.
They had been texting just earlier.
Amelia: What are you up to right now?
Damien: Missing me already?
Amelia: When did I say that?
Even while denying it, Amelia’s smile was so wide it practically reached her ears.
Damien: Sounds like that’s exactly what you meant.
Amelia: Seriously, what are you doing? Busy? At the office?
Damien: Not busy. I’ve got time for you.
Truth was, no matter what Damien was doing, if it was Amelia reaching out, he’d always make time
for her.
Amelia: Okay, then focus on your work for now.
Chapter 218
Right after hitting send, she looked up–and saw Damien walking down the street with another woman. Their body language? Way too close for comfort.
Who is she?
Amelia stared at the smiling woman, mentally flipping through everyone she knew, but couldn’t
place her at all.
Before she could snap out of it, Damien and the woman got into a car and left.
Amelia couldn’t even remember how she got back to the Taylor estate. The only thing that stuck was Emily Carter teasing her when she walked in the door.
“Why do you look like you just got dumped?”
Amelia didn’t even have the energy to snap back. She just trudged upstairs with a gloomy face, pulled out her phone-
Still no reply from Damien.
Her mind started spiraling.
What were he and that woman doing? Why didn’t he message back? Was he too busy? Too busy doing… what, exactly?
The thought led to worse ones. Especially to the fact that Damien hadn’t even done “that” with her. Had he decided to try with someone else?
“Amelia Johnson, cut it out!” she muttered, shaking her head hard, trying to clear it.
She sat up from the bed, tossed her phone aside, and grabbed her laptop to dive into sketching a new design.
Once she started focusing, thoughts of Damien had no space left.
Back at the office, Damien realized something was off–he hadn’t heard back from Amelia. When he picked up his phone, he saw he’d never hit send on his last message.
He quickly typed a new one, asking where she was, saying he’d come right away.
But Amelia didn’t respond.
He tried calling. No answer.
Getting anxious, Damien called Emily Carter and was relieved to find out Amelia was safe and holed up at the Taylor estate.
Without missing a beat, Damien jumped into his car and sped off to find her. “Finally, you’re here.
Damien. Amelia came back looking all down, wouldn’t say a word about what happened. Just
locked herself up in her room and skipped dinner too.” Emily followed Damien upstairs, quickly

Amelia sniffled under the covers, her voice muffled. “Didn’t you say you were in your office? Why didn’t it look like that at all?”
The pieces clicked in Damien’s head. Her earlier cryptic comment about something “special” must’ve meant she’d gone to see him – and caught that moment with the female client in the
Great. She was jealous.
Damien burst out laughing, clearly amused. He pulled the quilt away. “Come on, silly girl, don’t sulk yourself sick.”
“Hmph. Like you care,” Amelia muttered and shut her eyes tight. She refused to look at him, worried that one glance at his annoyingly handsome face would make her cave too soon.
