Reborn Second Chance With The Scheming Tycoon novel Chapter 270

Chapter 224

The morning breeze was still gentle, and the sunlight warm and mellow.

For a second, Amelia Johnson almost thought last night was just a nightmare she’d finally woken up from. But then the shouting downstairs shattered that illusion.

“Damien?”

She knew Damien Taylor had gone to answer the door, but had no clue who it was. The heated voices didn’t sound good, so she hurried downstairs.

“I just want to make sure Amelia’s okay. And as Zoey’s brother, I share the blame. Can I at least come in and apologize to Amelia in person?” Jack Mitchell’s tone was polite but firm.

But polite didn’t cut it with Damien. He stood rock solid at the door, not budging an inch.

“Apologize? You think a simple sorry is gonna clean up this mess?”

That’s when it clicked for Amelia. The three guys from last night—Zoey had sent them. She always knew that girl would go to extremes.

Hearing Jack pleading just to see her once made Amelia soften a bit. Back in college, he used to look out for her, helped her a lot when she needed it.

With a quiet sigh, she stepped forward, lightly tugged at Damien’s sleeve.

“Damien, let me talk to him. Just a few words.”

Damien frowned, clearly not thrilled, but he backed off a few steps anyway–he respected her

choice.

“Amelia, I’m really sorry…” Jack looked like he couldn’t even meet her eyes. The bruises on her face made his chest tighten painfully, like an invisible grip was crushing it.

He would’ve taken the hit for her if he could.

“Are you okay? I—”

“I’ll let this go,” Amelia cut in with a forced smile. “Not because I’m kind, just… paying back what I owed you.”

Jack looked stunned, like he couldn’t process what she’d just said. He was silent for a long second, just staring at her.

Damien, on the other hand, wasn’t surprised at all. He knew Amelia too well.

Chapter 224

Back when they were in University College Moon for school, there had been an accident that

almost cost Amelia her life. Jack had saved her.

Damien didn’t like this decision, not one bit. But it didn’t mean Zoey was off the hook–he had his,

own ways to deal with her.

After Jack left, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell came personally with all kinds of health supplements, offering their apologies and thanks. But Damien wouldn’t let Amelia come down.

“You’re tired. Get some rest.”

He didn’t want her smiling at the parents of someone who hurt her, pretending everything was

okay.

Amelia nodded and stayed in bed, spacing out as she stared at the sky outside. Clouds drifted across the blue like nothing had happened. What comforted her most was that through everything, Damien was always there.

Meanwhile downstairs, Damien professionally accepted the gifts.

“No need for the formalities. Your daughter’s actions were disgusting. Amelia let it go this time, but if she keeps going like this, it’s only a matter of time before she crosses the line for real.”

Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell could only nod in agreement, not daring to object.

“Mr. Taylor, we’ll make sure to discipline her. She’ll never act out like this again.”

Damien snapped coldly, “She’s getting out tomorrow. Make sure she shows up first thing to apologize.”

With that, he motioned for someone to see them out. Zoey Mitchell had a hell of a time in that detention center. Thanks to Damien Taylor pulling strings beforehand, no one gave her any face in there. Her cell was a filthy mess, and the food? Honestly, even pigs would turn up their noses. It was pure torture.

The second she got out, all she wanted was to dodge the reporters and rush home for a shower.

But Jack Mitchell grabbed her arm, dead serious. “You’re coming with me to apologize to Amelia.

Now.”

Zoey snapped, jerking her arm back like she’d lost it. “I’m not going! Haven’t I suffered enough already? What about her? Amelia came out untouched! Why should I say sorry? I’d rather die!”

Smack!

That slap came out of nowhere–loud and hard. Zoey staggered back, stunned, eyes wide as she stared at Jack. “You hit me? For her? For that woman?”

Jack looked crushed. “Zoey, why are you still so unwilling to admit you were wrong?”

“You realize Amelia let this go. Without that, you’d be facing what–three years minimum? Is that

“Got your apology speech ready, or do I need to coach you again?” he asked just before they went

  1. in.

Zoey rolled her eyes, annoyed. “I got it. Just a ‘sorry, right? No need to repeat it a hundred times.”

“I’m really okay, you know. Maybe we can wrap up for today,” she offered, knowing Damien was just

But she wasn’t. She’d grown a pretty thick skin–wasn’t someone you could knock down easily.

Seeing she was truly fine, the psych finally relaxed. “Alright. But if anything comes up, just reach out

They both headed downstairs, just in time to see Emily Carter busy doing who–knew–what in the

When she heard them coming, Emily turned around. “Hey, Amelia. Jack showed up with his charming devil of a sister.”

Her whole demeanor shifted in an instant.
