Chapter 225-1

Chapter 225-1

Amelia Johnson raised a brow, her whole expression lazy but not lacking authority. Her half–lidded

eyes, sharp and captivating, carried just the right hint of sass.

Her voice, casual with a teasing edge, held no real warmth.

“Miss Mitchell, that dramatic kneel of yours nearly made the floor shake. So committed. Fine, I’ll let

it go this time.”

Then, her gaze turned ice–cold in a second. “But if it happens again, be ready to have a chat with

the cops.”

Zoey Mitchell froze, her nerves clearly rattled. She gave a stiff nod, like her neck wouldn’t move

properly.

“Alright, you can get up now,” Amelia said lazily, flicking her fingers as if waving off a servant in an

old costume drama.

Zoey wanted to get up–she really did–but her legs had gone numb. She wobbled a bit, then glanced at her brother for help.

Jack Mitchell, however, just happened to be looking elsewhere.

Hard to tell if it was on purpose or not.

He clenched his fists.

It wasn’t that he didn’t care–this was the only way she’d learn not to cross the line if she stopped thinking someone would always bail her out.

Emily Carter stood off to the side, looking smug. “Guess Miss Mitchell feels super guilty this time, huh? Must be why she’s been kneeling for so long. Better not interrupt her repentance.”

Jack finally bowed low, almost ninety degrees. “Amelia, once again, I sincerely apologize on my sister’s behalf. I’m truly sorry.” Then he turned and chased after Zoey.

Watching his back disappear, Emily sighed and shook her head. “Same parents, crazy how he turned out decent while she’s… a mess.”

Amelia shrugged. “You never really know with this stuff.”

“True.” Emily nodded, then nudged her playfully. “Sooo, how ‘bout a camping trip this weekend?”

“How ‘bout Monday instead?” Amelia didn’t even look up, eyes fixed on her laptop screen, focused

on wrapping up the last two chapters of *Mist*.

Asudden change of plans had hit her–Damien Taylor had cleared time out of his schedule to be

Later, Richard Johnson called. By now, he already knew what had happened, but since Damien had promised to take care of Amelia, he hadn’t stepped in earlier. Still, after two days, he couldn’t hold
