Forget it, whatever. Damien’s not in his right mind anyway, just let him hold me. If he totally snaps, that’d be a bigger problem. Besides, I’m technically the one getting the better deal here.

Just then, Amelia Johnson’s phone buzzed. It was within arm’s reach, so she picked it up.

It was a call from Ethan Collins.

“Are you with Damien Taylor?” Ethan’s tone was sharp.

Amelia’s voice was calm, “Do you need something?”

“I asked if you’re with Damien Taylor.”

“Yes, I am. What’s the matter?”

“Don’t you have any shame? No sense of decency-”

Amelia hung up the call without hesitation and switched off her phone.

Mostly she didn’t want Damien overhearing. Who knew what kind of nonsense Ethan would say next?

But seriously, what right did Ethan have to scold her? If it weren’t because Damien was here, she’d have fired right back.

After a while, Damien’s breathing started to settle, and Amelia figured he must’ve fallen asleep.

Then out of nowhere, he asked, “Who called you?”

Amelia replied, “You’ve seen him. At that party.”

“What’s he to you?” Damien looked curious.

She shifted a little, “Officially, my fiancé. But not for long.”

“Why?”

“He’s into my sister.”

“That doesn’t bother you?”

Amelia chuckled softly. “Do I seem like I actually have feelings for him?”

In the dark, Damien’s expression softened. “Not really.”

“Let’s just sleep with the light on,” Amelia muttered. The position she was in was kinda uncomfortable.

Damien quickly said, “No, don’t turn it on.”
