Chapter 71 Won’t force you

“It’s me, don’t freak out,” Damien said.

Amelia’s eyes widened. “Da Damien? What are you doing here?”

He walked up to her. “The lock on my door’s busted. Can I crash here tonight?”

“Uh… I guess?” Amelia scratched her head. That was weird. Rich neighborhoods like Taylor Residence weren’t supposed to have locks that went out that easily, right?

Damien’s expression instantly cooled. His tone was flat. “If it’s a problem, I’ll leave right now.”

Amelia: “…” Wow, that’s your version of ‘not forcing me’?

“Of course it’s fine. Why don’t you hit the shower first?” she said with an awkward smile. Like she had a choice-say no and deal with the aftermath? No thanks.

Damien nodded slightly without another word and headed straight for the bathroom.

Minutes later, another unexpected guest made an appearance at her door.

Clas

Amelia was curled up on the couch reading. When Ethan suddenly walked in, she jumped up and shouted, “Ethan Collins, are you out of your mind? You just broke into my place!”

“I needed to talk to you. Alone,” he said as he stepped closer.

“There’s nothing to talk about. Leave,” she shot back, her voice icy.

“Why did you keep this from me?” Ethan’s tone was accusatory.

“Keep what from you?” Amelia raised a brow.

“That you were a top student at University College Moon. Why didn’t you ever say anything?”

Amelia glanced at him sideways. “You never asked.”

Ethan let out a cold laugh. “My mom and Sabrina treated you like family. Did you really see them that way?

Amelia’s lips curled into a slight smirk. “Not everything is what it seems.”

That threw Ethan off for a second. “You’ve always been selfish, you-”

Amelia cut him off, her voice rising. “You were my fiancé for five years, yet you didn’t even know I had low blood sugar. And you think you’ve got the right to judge me?”

Ethan opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.

Amelia reached for a blue notebook from the nightstand and tossed it to him. “These past five years? It’s all in there. Used to mean a lot to me. Not anymore.”

Ethan flipped it open and froze.

The notebook was filled with notes-everything from his tastes to habits.

Ethan looked up at her, confused. “Some of this isn’t right… are you sure you didn’t get things mixed up?”

“Sabrina told me all of it,” Amélia replied, meaningfully. “She’s known you forever, right?”

Ethan frowned as he stared at the pages. “When did I ever say I liked women who were just pretty faces?”

Amelia shrugged. “I wouldn’t know.”

Ethan kept turning the pages, lips pressing into a tighter line with each one.

“You done flipping through it?” Amelia said, holding out her hand. “Give it back.”

He didn’t want to let go, but she snatched it away anyway.

“I showed it to you so my five years of effort wouldn’t just vanish Without a trace,” she said, picking up the lighter on the coffee table. “But now that we’re done here, no need to keep it. It’s all just a joke now.”

“Amelia, wait-” Ethan tried to stop her.

“Oh, right. Can’t burn it. Too stinky. Plus, fire hazard,” she said, then tossed the notebook into the paper shredder.Ethan Collins let out a low sigh, a hint of discomfort flickering in his heart.

His gaze landed on the lighter. “Where’d you get this?”

“I bought it, so what?” Amelia Johnson replied, her tone light but slightly guilty. “Does buying a lighter automatically mean I smoke?”
