Annie thought that it was all happening too fast.
Although she had discussed it with Christian before and had even tried on wedding dresses, actually scheduling the wedding was another matter. She hadn't expected the date to come so suddenly.
"The Century Hotel?" she asked.
That was the top luxury hotel in Jynston. Rumor had it that even a simple wedding party there cost at least ten thousand dollars.
She and Christian were only putting on a show. She couldn't help wondering if such extravagance and waste were really necessary.
Annie furrowed her brows. "Christian, we're just working together. There's no need to—"
"The money has already been paid." Christian interrupted her, his tone feigning innocence. "It's the hotel's policy for us to pay in full to reserve a spot. If we cancel now, they won't refund any of the deposit."
Annie was choked into silence by his words. Looking at his serious expression, she found herself unable to refute him.
Ultimately, she could only nod helplessly.
Seeing her agree, the corners of Christian's lips finally curved upward slightly. He leaned forward, took her hand, and held it earnestly in his palm.
"Ann, you don't need to worry about anything," he said. "On our wedding day, you'll just need to dress up beautifully and be the most beautiful bride. I'll take care of everything else."
The heat of Christian's palm sent Annie's heart fluttering. She looked into his deep, focused eyes and felt a moment of daze.
He continued, "As for the guests, I don't have many people on my side to invite.
"My parents divorced a long time ago. My grandfather is getting old and has been recovering abroad, so it is not convenient for him to return. So, it'll just be our two families having a simple meal together."
Christian made everything sound reasonable, perfectly explaining why the wedding was so rushed and why there were so few guests.
Annie listened quietly, but waves of emotion surged in her heart.
In that moment, meeting his affectionate gaze and listening as he arranged everything for her, she had the fleeting illusion that she was truly getting married.
The man before her was handsome, wealthy, gentle, and considerate. Except for his identity, which was still a mystery, Christian embodied almost every woman's ideal partner.
Annie wondered if it might actually be a good thing to spend her life with such a person. After all, looking across the entire city of Jynston, she couldn't find anyone more suitable than him.
But now, she decided to forget it and take it one step at a time. She couldn't give her heart away as easily as she did in her past life.
