Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 157

Sean's pupils constricted suddenly. His knuckles turned white from gripping the phone so hard.

Married?

He wondered if Annie was really going to marry that random man who had appeared out of nowhere. That manager who had nothing going for him except his good looks?

He almost immediately found Annie's number in his contacts and wanted to call and confront her.

How dare she! How could she forget the past so quickly and throw herself into another man's arms?

They hadn't been broken up for that long.

However, just as Sean's finger was about to tap on the dial button, the caller ID on the screen changed to another name—Cecilia Lambert.

Sean suppressed his rising agitation. He swiped to answer, and his voice, which had been tense just a moment ago, instantly softened. "Cecilia."

Cecilia's tearful voice immediately came from the other end of the line. "Sean... did you forget about me?

"I heard... I heard Annie is getting married in three days. Are you... Are you going to dump me?"

She sobbed uncontrollably, sounding as if she were about to collapse at any second.

Listening to her crying, Sean only felt annoyed. However, he remained patient and gently comforted her. "Don't overthink it. Why would I dump you?"

His mind was currently full of the news that Annie was getting married. She was like a splinter under his skin. He couldn't dig her out, and he couldn't ignore the pain.

He absolutely couldn't allow Annie to marry someone else so easily. In that moment, Sean shoved aside all thoughts of carefully choosing a wife of equal social standing to secure his status. None of it mattered anymore.

Sean looked at the night sky outside the window, a trace of determination flashing in his eyes. He spoke to Cecilia on the other end of the phone in a tone calmer than ever before.

"Cecilia, I asked the doctor. He said you have been recovering well recently. Let's get married."

On the other end of the phone, Cecilia's crying abruptly stopped.

The air seemed to freeze for a few seconds.

Then, her ecstatic voice came through the receiver, filled with disbelief. "Sean? Are... Are you telling the truth? Can we really get married?"

"Yes," Sean responded faintly. "I'll have someone arrange everything."

"That's wonderful! Sean, I love you! I really love you so much!" Cecilia was so excited that she was incoherent.

Sean didn't respond to her enthusiasm. Instead, he hung up immediately.

She frowned tightly, thinking that she couldn't marry Sean looking like that. She wanted to be the most beautiful bride.

She immediately rummaged through her drawers, found all her expensive skincare products, and began applying them to her face layer by layer.

As for Annie...

A sneer curled at the corner of Cecilia's mouth.

That stupid woman had better be stuck with that random man forever and never appear in front of Cecilia and Sean again.

Sean's painstaking efforts were destined to be in vain as Annie simply had no time to check her phone—let alone check any social media apps.

The wedding date was set in a rush, so she had many things to handle.

Early the next morning, Annie asked for some time off from the company. She walked into Linda's office and shyly explained her purpose.

"Ms. Lopez, I would like to ask for a few days off to deal with some personal matters."

The queen of fashion design, who was always known for her strictness, was surprisingly easy to talk to this time.

Linda lifted her gaze, a strange look on her face, as though she were suppressing a laugh. Instead, she waved her hand and said, "Granted."
