Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 182

Annie sat up and checked the time on her phone. It was close to 11:00 pm, but Christian still wasn't back.

He had received a call that afternoon and told her that the company had an important engagement dinner, so he would be back late.

Although she knew that it was a normal work-related social event, the inexplicable panic in her heart grew stronger.

She threw off the covers, got out of bed, and decided to fetch a glass of water in the kitchen. As her feet touched the wooden floor, her chaotic thoughts calmed slightly.

The living room was pitch dark. Instead of turning on the lights, she walked up to the kitchen by the moonlight and grabbed a bottle of cold water from the fridge.

After twisting the cap open, she threw her head back and drank a few gulps. The cool water slid down her throat into her stomach, easing her restlessness a little.

Just as she was about to return to her bedroom, her peripheral gaze flicked to the end of the hallway, where the door to Christian's guest bedroom was slightly ajar.

Was he back?

Annie's heart skipped a beat. She found herself walking over almost involuntarily and gently pushing the door open.

The room was empty, while the bed was neatly made and untouched. It was true that Christian wasn't home yet.

A faint sense of disappointment rose in Annie's chest. As she turned to leave, her eyes caught a note on the desk. A delicate glass paperweight held down a pale yellow sticky note.

She walked over and read the words by the light seeping in through the window. It was unmistakably Christian's handwriting—clean and bold, yet edged with a quiet, almost hidden gentleness, just like the man himself.

It read, "There are fruits in the fridge, Ann. Eat something if you're hungry. Don't wait up for me."

It struck Annie that he had left her a note before heading out. That was just like Christian—always impeccable when it came to the smallest details.

A smile tugged at her lips, and the anxiety in her chest finally began to fade. She figured that she must have been overthinking.

But when her eyes fell on the bottom right corner of the note, her heart, which had just settled, suddenly lurched again. The time was written there—7:00 pm.

She instinctively checked her phone and saw it was 11:04 pm.
