In an instant, everything clicked for Easton. His savior had to be connected to Christian.
That realization stirred a complicated storm of emotions inside him. To be seen in such a broken and humiliated state by his greatest rival was a feeling worse than death.
As he struggled to sit up and protect his last shred of dignity, Christian noticed all his efforts.
Easton forced himself to meet Christian’s gaze, bearing both the physical pain and the crushing weight of shame. "So, Mr. Parker… Are you here just to see me make a fool of myself?"
Ignoring the provocation, Christian pulled a chair over, took his seat, and leisurely crossed his legs. "Not quite. I just want to know why my niece saved you."
Niece?
Easton paused, then remembered Suzanna from the landfill and belatedly realized that she was Christian's niece.
It was indeed a small world.
A bitter, self-mocking smile tugged at his lips, and humiliation deepened in his eyes.
As the proud eldest son of the Frost family, he now owed his life to his rival's kin. He found that situation brutally ironic.
He suppressed the surge of emotions in his chest and sharpened his gaze. "Let's make a deal, Mr. Parker."
Christian raised an eyebrow, mildly intrigued. "Oh? And what makes you think you're still in a position to negotiate?"
Easton clenched the bedsheets tightly and said, "Help me take back the Frost family. When it's done, you'll get half of Frost Group's profits for the next three years."
It was an offer tempting enough to sway anyone, but Christian merely let out a quiet chuckle. The Frost family's petty profits didn't interest him, and he had no desire to wade into their mess for them.
"I'm not interested," he flatly stated, leaving no room for negotiation.
Easton didn't seem surprised. Instead of giving up, he played his second card. "Sean won't give up on Annie."
At the mention of that name, something finally shifted in Christian's eyes, and Easton sharply caught it. "Besides, Sean knows who you really are. If he sees Annie again, do you think he'll hesitate to tell her everything?"
The air in the room grew heavy, while Christian's presence turned cold and imposing. It was true that a lunatic like Sean was capable of anything.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she grew.
As Easton watched her fume, he was oddly amused. She was exactly as rumored—fiery, blunt, and unapologetically direct.
"Thank you, Ms. Snyder," he said in a hoarse but earnest voice. "I'll never forget that you saved my life. Once I'm recovered, I'll make sure to return the favor."
Suzanna scoffed. "I don't need any of it."
She didn't care about receiving huge rewards or payments in kind. Her expression softened slightly as she said, "All I ask is that you all stay away from Annie and don't drag her into the Frost family's dirty business.
"She has finally escaped Sean, the jerk. I don't want her to get hurt again."
Easton froze at her words. Looking at her, realization flickered in his eyes.
Then, he quietly promised, "Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to her."
