Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 217

Mason braced himself against the wooden door, standing ramrod straight. He listened as Annie's footsteps faded away, then disappeared.

In the dark, his lips formed a faint, relieved smile.

It was done.

Annie's safety mattered more than anything. His life was worth it.

Heavy, chaotic footsteps rushed closer.

A moment later, several harsh flashlight beams cut through the darkness and pinned him in place.

At the front stood Dingo, one hand clamped over the back of his head, blood smeared across his face. His eyes were vicious, locked on Mason as if he wanted to tear him apart.

"Just you?" Dingo's voice was hoarse, thick with the metallic bite of blood.

Mason didn't answer. He only stared back, his body taut, ready to fight to the last breath.

A few of Dingo's men surged forward.

Mason moved fast, dropping the first two men who came at him, but there were too many.

In the scramble, the flat of a machete slammed into his knee.

He grunted and dropped to one knee.

Seconds later, several men forced him down and pinned him there, wrenching his arms until he couldn't move.

Dingo walked up slowly, looming over him, violence practically rolling off him in visible waves. He crouched, grabbed Mason by the collar, and yanked him up off the ground.

In the struggle, Mason's right sleeve tore open, revealing a tattoo under the flashlight glare.

Most outsiders wouldn't have understood it, but every force in the Trident Corridor knew that symbol on sight. It was the mark of the Rangvar military district.

Dingo's pupils constricted.

So, that was it.

It was no wonder some nobody had dared to pull this move on his turf. This hadn't been a spur-of-the-moment move. It had been a planned infiltration.

That woman had been important enough that the military had sent someone in to get her out.

What kind of trouble had he just dragged onto himself?

"Very well," Dingo ground out through clenched teeth. "So, the Rangvar military district thought it could plant a mole in my camp."
