Chapter 2
When she opened her eyes again, a sharp pain throbbed in her forehead.
“Bang! Mom’s dead! Diana is my new mom!”
Josephine was still dazed when her five–year–old son aimed a toy gun at her head and fired a rubber bullet.
She blinked at her surroundings. Was this the home she and Edmund had shared when they were young?!
Pushing her son away, still stunned, she walked over to the calendar.

She had been reborn.
“He was just joking with you, and you push him like that? No wonder Steve likes Diana more.”

From that day on, Josephine prepared for her departure and stopped serving the father and son.
She no longer ironed Edmund’s uniforms perfectly, nor did she wake early to make Stephen breakfast every morning.
Now, when they returned home, she retreated to her room, shutting them out.
A week passed before Edmund finally noticed something was wrong.
“Are you upset lately? Was it standing in the rain for four hours last time delivering my files, or because Steve said you’re not good enough for me again?”
Josephine’s hands froze as she adjusted her clothes.
So he knew all along.
