Seeing Josephine stay silent, Edmund pulled her close and called out toward the door.

“Steve, come apologize to Mom.”

“Dad, if I say I’m sorry, the nanny will still make our meals.

“The kindergarten food is gross. This woman cooks way better.”

In Stephen’s eyes, she was nothing more than someone who washed. their clothes and cooked for them.

Every apology, every concession–they all existed just to get her back in that kitchen.

“Steve, don’t talk to Mom like that,” Edmund said, a hint of anger in his voice.

Then he looked at Josephine. “He’s just like you–stubborn.

Josephine knew Edmund was always decisive; once he made a choice, it couldn’t be changed.

She tucked the letter into her chest and silently followed him into the Jeep.

The store was crowded, but the moment the clerks saw Edmund, their eyes lit up.

“Commander Oswald, back to buy your wife more jewelry? You two are really sweet.”

Josephine didn’t care about the styles. She pointed randomly.

“This one.”

“I want the exact same one, too.”

Diana’s voice came from behind them, teasing, as she pointed at the ring in Josephine’s hand.

Edmund’s gaze flicked toward Diana, a subtle glint in his eyes. “Then get another one just like it.”

Josephine’s fists clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
