Chapter 10
John was quiet. He swore Sierra dropped the credit card on purpose.
“How could you treat something John gave you like that?” Pamela quickly picked up the card, holding it with lots of care. “After all, this is…”
But before she could finish, Sierra was already gone with the suitcase in her hand and had headed straight for her car.
Sierra didn’t go home. Instead, she drove straight to Holly’s place. She still hadn’t found a new place to live, so keeping her things at Holly’s felt safest for now.
When Holly saw how much more exhausted Sierra looked after just half a day, her heart ached for her. “Did that scumbag do something again?”
Sierra nodded. “Yeah.”
“What a scumbag! Seriously!” Holly cursed.
“When I went back to pack at noon, he made me open my suitcase right in front of Pamela, as if I would try to steal from him,” Sierra said quietly, her heart feeling empty. “Later, when I called him, I heard Pamela in the background saying she had just finished her shower.”
“He’s crazy!” Holly was furious.
Hearing Holly stand up for her, Sierra pressed her lips together. After a long pause, she finally looked at her and said, “Holly.”
“Yeah?” Holly looked at her.
“Can you give me a hug?” The calm on Sierra’s face faded, replaced by a wave of pain that swept through her chest.
Holly pulled her into a hug, holding her close and giving her the warmest, safest comfort she could.
Sierra had wanted to stay strong a little longer, but thinking about the past few days made her sob. She didn’t want to cry, but the tears wouldn’t stop. Her shoulders shook as her heart ached so much it was hard to breathe.
“If you want to cry, just cry. Don’t hold it in,” Holly said, patting Sierra’s back, giving her the warmth she needed. “You can start anew once you’re done. It will just be the two of us, and I’ll take care of you!”
Sierra cried even harder, and Holly just held her tighter.
After ten minutes or so, Sierra’s tears finally ran dry.
Holly wiped away her tears and straightened her messy hair. “You’ve still got me, you know?”
“I know.” Sierra’s voice was a little hoarse.
“If you really want to move out, bring Tommy here too,” Holly offered, not wanting Sierra to worry about money. “It’s close to his school, and I can help him. It’ll be easier on you.”
Sierra was about to refuse, but Holly cut her off fiercely, “Don’t you dare! If you do, you’re saying I’m not a real friend.”
“Okay,” Sierra agreed for now, but deep down, she had already decided. No matter what, she was going to find her own place.
“What about Tommy staying with you? John really doesn’t care?” Holly knew how things worked among the rich, so she was much more sensitive to certain things.
Most of the time in high society divorces, the man took the child, and the mother hardly ever won custody, no matter how hard she fought. It was the first time she had heard of someone like John having no issues with this.
Sierra shook her head. “He really doesn’t.”

“What about his parents?” Holly asked.
“I don’t know if he’s told them,” Sierra said honestly. She had never been that close with John’s parents anyway.
