John’s gaze seemed able to see through everything, straight into the heart of it all.
Pamela forced a smile under the immense pressure. “How would I know?”
“I don’t want something like this to happen a second time. Sierra’s my wife and Tommy’s mother.” From Pamela’s reaction alone, it was enough for John to confirm his suspicion. “I made that very clear to you from the start.”
Pamela’s eyes turned red. “It wasn’t me.”
“If you want to go after anyone else, I’ll help you regardless of whether you’re right or wrong,” John said, plainly and simply. ” But not Sierra. Not her.”
“It really wasn’t me! This has nothing to do with me!” Pamela felt as if a hand was squeezing her heart as she tried hard to defend herself. “You can check if you don’t believe me.”
John looked at her tear–filled eyes, his tone slow and steady. “Do you really want me to investigate this?”
Pamela paused.
A chill seemed to run down her back for a split second.
“Did you take in what I just said?” John didn’t press further and left a way out for her.
Pamela nodded. “I did.”
“I accept that you can scheme. I respect your thoughts, no matter how dark they may be.” John had never been a good man, but he had his own standards. “However, none of it can ever be used on Sierra.”
Pamela had never wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear more than she did now.
In front of John, she felt completely exposed. Every thought she had was laid bare under his eyes, with nowhere to hide them.
He tore her mask off without mercy, yet still gave her all his favor. A man like John made her feel warm and threatened at the
same time.
“I’m sorry…” Pamela knew there was no point arguing anymore.
John was about to tell her to apologize to Sierra, but then he remembered how Sierra did everything she could to separate them from each other, so he said nothing.
Pamela was getting a little scared when she saw him saying nothing. “The nicer you are, the more I worry about you leaving. I’m scared that if you two make up someday, you won’t want me anymore.”
“I told her about you when I liked her the most.” John was perfectly clear about how much of a scumbag he was. “Your worry is
unnecessary.”
“But love is always obsessive.” Pamela wanted to take up more and more space in his heart, to be the only one in his eyes and mind. “I only wanted to be with you before this. Now that I spend more time with you, I just want you by my side all the time.”
John’s dark eyes paused.
He suddenly remembered some of the things Sierra used to say.
Pamela grabbed his hand. “John.”
John’s voice was faint. “Go on.”
“I want to work at Origin Games with you, as your secretary.” Pamela pushed herself to say it. “That way, I can be with you every day and stop living in constant fear of losing you. Is that alright?”

“Sure.” John didn’t refuse.
Pamela was a little surprised. “Really?”
“Yes.”
Pamela going to Origin Games would let Sierra feel, in the most direct way, the difference between how he treated “his people” and everyone else.
If Sierra still insisted on divorcing him, then none of his favor would belong to her. In time, she would understand what the right choice would be.
