Sierra never got the answer to that question.

“You’ve met your grandparents and your aunt on your father’s side. But have you ever met your mom’s parents? Or an uncle or aunt on her side of the family?” Lucas threw one question after another at Sierra.

Sierra answered without hesitation. “Mom said she’s an orphan.”

Lucas let out a cold chuckle. “Does your mother’s mannerism belong to that of an orphan to you?”

It did not.

Anna looked more like someone raised in a well–educated family.

“If you clear the debt for me, I’ll tell you everything.” After beating around the bush, Lucas was still after the same thing in the

end.

Sierra didn’t believe him. “She’ll tell me when she wakes up.”

That day, her mother had told Sierra she would tell her a story when they got home. No one had known that the road home would stretch on for years, and it was still stretching on endlessly.

Rage burned in Lucas’s chest. “Sierra Bell!”

Sierra’s tone remained calm. “My friends and I still have things to talk about. If there’s nothing else, please leave on your own.”

Lucas was boiling inside, but Nicholas’s earlier words were enough to put him on his guard. If he hadn’t spent more than twenty years trying and failing to uncover Anna’s background, he would’ve long used it to threaten Sierra.

But it was too cryptic.

So cryptic that he didn’t dare act recklessly.

“This way, please,” Nicholas made a courteous sign toward the door.

Lucas shot Sierra a vicious glare, but he still left. In his mind, he was already thinking of new ways to get what he wanted.

Downstairs, the security team from Henderson Group was still busy thinking up excuses to go upstairs. They perked up when they saw Lucas come out. As soon as he got into a cab, they called Jolin.

“Boss, Lucas just left.”

“What excuse did you use to go up?” John asked.

“We didn’t go up,” one of the security members answered.

John paused. “Explain.”

“We were still thinking of an excuse when Mr. Nicholas Young and Ms. Holly Sanders went up,” the man admitted.

Silence followed.

Chill gathered in John’s eyes as he said, “Go see Robin tomorrow.”

The bodyguards looked at each other. “What for?”

“So he can transfer you to something different,” John said.

He had chosen these men because they were skilled and tight–lipped, but he hadn’t expected them to be so…Intellectually slow.

It was something so simple, yet they still let Nicholas swoop in and take the credit.

He had just hung up and hadn’t even finished deciding what to tell Robin when a new message popped up on his phone.

[You should fix the mess you made yourself instead of making my backup dad number one handle it.]

John’s fingers trembled, and he immediately called Tommy.

However, Tommy hung up immediately. 1

John called again. Tommy hung up again.

When Sierra walked back into the room, she found Tommy glaring at his smartwatch in frustration.

“What’s wrong? Is the watch broken?”

“No,” Tommy said as he shook his head. When he saw Nicholas and Holly behind Sierra, he greeted them with a smile. “Hi, Nicholas! Hi, Holly!”
