“If you told me firmly that you would never forgive him, I might actually start to doubt it,” Holly joked.

All the good memories from the past five years weren’t something that could be erased so easily. Not to mention, Sierra was someone who took her emotions deeply.

“If I said I’d never forgive him firmly, it was only a way to remind myself of it,” Sierra answered calmly. “Or maybe just a way to lie to myself.”

Holly felt at ease now.

After Sierra got through this cooling–off period, she would help Holly take off to somewhere else. If John tried to interfere again by then, she could call the police on him with a clear conscience since they were no longer husband and wife.

After talking for a while, they each went back to their own lives.

Holly kept bickering with Jason, while Sierra used her free time to work on her freelance illustrations.

The weekend passed just like that.

In the past, Sierra used to stay at home every day. She never felt the weekend could pass her by so quickly. Life back then was almost the same every single day.

Only now did she feel that weekends were too short. It was over before it even began.

Early Monday morning, Holly came over to pick up Tommy for Sierra.

She claimed she was bored and wanted to experience what it felt like to be a mom. If she didn’t like it, she would just not have kids in the future.

Sierra, knowing Holly only wanted to share some of her burden, gave Holly a big hug.

After she arrived at the office, Sierra was pumped to get to work. She wanted to finish this project as soon as possible and get her

bonus.

That burst of enthusiasm did not even last half an hour, however.

About 9:30, Pamela and John arrived at the company together. Pamela was dressed in a formal outfit. She walked into their office area with a smile and passed along the message.

“Mr. Henderson wants everyone in the meeting room for a meeting.”

The company meetings were always scheduled for Monday mornings at 9:30 and Friday afternoons at 3:30.

But Pamela?

“Who is she?”

“No idea. A secretary for Mr. Handerson from Ivan?”

“Who knows. Maybe there will be an introduction at the meeting.”

Everyone made their way to the meeting room, talking softly to each other. Each person sat down with a notebook and a pen, and their eyes drifted toward the empty main seat at the head of the table. Their chests tightened for no clear reason.

Before long, John walked in from outside. His hair was combed without a strand out of place, and his shirt was buttoned all the way up to the collar. His whole body carried a cool, refined aura.

Pamela followed at his side.

John took the main seat. Pamela handed out the documents in her hands one by one.

“Let me introduce her. This is Pamela Sanders, my secretary.” John’s voice was cool and light. When he spoke, everyone unconsciously listened with full attention. “From now on, give your work straight to her. She’ll then report to me.”

Everyone answered in unison. “Alright.”
