Chapter 120
“I’ve been in the workplace for almost a decade. There are some things I can see through with just one glance.”
As Jenny explained to Sierra, a rare, faint smile appeared on her usually calm face.
“Besides, you wear all your emotions on your face.”
Sierra instinctively touched her own cheeks.
Jenny looked at Sierra the way an older sister would. “When you’re in the workplace, you need to learn to hide yourself sometimes.”
“Hide myself?” This was the first time Sierra had ever heard anyone say that to her.
Jenny gave a quiet nod. “Yes.”
New emotions rippled through Sierra’s clear eyes.
Since Sierra was little, her mother had always told her to just be herself. That as long as her mother was there, she didn’t need to hold anything back.
After she got married, John told her that she didn’t have to play pretend. What he liked the most about her was exactly because she was real, straightforward, and honest.
But now, someone was telling her she needed to hide parts of herself.
“Don’t talk too much about your private life at work,” Jenny went on, laying out the basic rules. She really did want Sierra to devote herself fully to her work. “Including whatever is going on between you and Ms. Sanders.”
Sierra raised her eyes and looked at Jenny.
Jenny gave her the reason. “No one really cares what happened. Most people just want a bit of gossip to spice up their boring
lives.”
Sierra was shocked by the words, as if she was suddenly forced to open her eyes.
All this time, she had never cared about social conventions. She had never bothered to learn about the intricacies.
If she had called Pamela a homewrecker in front of everyone when Pamela brought her coffee and cake that morning, not a single person would have stood up for her. They were colleagues, not friends.
Between colleagues, interests came first.
“Sis,” Sierra changed how she addressed Jenny, feeling genuinely grateful. “Thank you for telling me all this.”
Jenny’s expression stayed as calm as ever, but a faint softness passed through her eyes. “If you want to thank me, then focus on your work. Don’t let other things mess with your mood.”
Sierra nodded.
At that moment, her mindset underwent a minor adjustment.
When she got back to her desk, she took a small break and tried to push thoughts of Pamela as far back as she could.
Letting someone who had nothing to do with her life ruin her mood was the dumbest thing she could do. All she needed to do was work hard and earn her paycheck. Everything else was outside the scope of what she considered.
That afternoon, Pamela brought the team more snacks for tea.
Between laughter and chatter, she told everyone that this was a benefit she had gone out of her way to secure for them. From now on, there would be snacks and milk tea every afternoon.

With that kind of cordiality, she practically won everyone over.
She set the treats down in front of Sierra, just like in the morning.
This time, Sierra didn’t react like before. She simply thanked Pamela and kept her attention on her work.
Pamela felt Sierra had become a different person. She wanted to say a few more things to provoke Sierra, but the work atmosphere around them was too strong. If she pushed it, she would only make herself stand out in a bad way.
In the end, Pamela had to give up and walk away.
A little over twenty minutes after she left, Jenny asked, “Aren’t you going to eat that?”
Sierra shook her head. “No. I’m on a diet.”
