Kenneth decided the only explanation was that both John and Eagon were all a little unwell in the head. That was why he could not make sense of what they were doing.

Kenneth left Henderson Group with a strange feeling in his heart, thoughts churning.

Before that person had had the accident, John had lived a rough life, but his mind had been fairly stable. But after that person’s disappearance, he had turned into a completely different man.

Kenneth had thought Sierra’s appearance would change him. During the years he was married, John finally acted normally. The way he spoiled and cared for Sierra went far beyond what an ordinary husband would do. He had been the perfect husband.

That afternoon, John handled most of the important matters at Henderson Group and handed the few remaining minor issues

to Robin.

“Boss.” Robin came into his office before the end of the day.

John asked, “What is it?”

“Your father is upset after hearing that you’re organizing Origin Games‘ anniversary party,” Robin reported, his tone no different from an ordinary work update. “He asked you to call him back.”

“I don’t have time,” John said, flat and cold.

Robin went on, “He said that if you don’t call, they’ll go to Ms. Bell instead.”

John raised his eyes. The calm in them turned into something icy in an instant. Danger slowly spread in them.

“Tell them if they want a peaceful life, they had better stop doing anything stupid. I have always been cold–blooded.”

“They’re in the meeting room,” Robin said, bracing himself.

John glanced at him.

Robin could almost feel the pressure bearing down on him.

John knew this was coming from his parents, and so he didn’t blame Robin for not filtering the message. On his way out to the boardroom, John threw him a sentence,

“You’re my assistant. Don’t worry about what anyone else says, even them.”

“Understood,” Robin answered.

John went to the meeting room. When he walked in, Danny and Agnes were already sitting on the couch, one full of anger, the other trying to talk him down with a complicated expression.

At the sound of the door, they both looked up. Their eyes met John’s.

“John,” Agnes called him.

“Are you involved in Origin Games‘ anniversary party?” Danny asked, the rage running through him was forced down the moment he felt the pressure in John’s presence.

John let his gaze slip on his parents.

Just when they thought John was going to explain himself, he turned toward security waiting outside and gave a clear order.”

“If it isn’t because of that identity, my order just now would have been to drag you both out and throw you on the street,” John said, standing at the doorway, his figure straight. “Not to show you out.”

A flash of pain crossed Agnes’s eyes. “Is it really impossible for you to hold a normal conversation with your own parents?”

After that last phone call, they had thought their son was finally ready to approach them. But now… It was clear that nothing had changed compared to the past.

“Stay away from Sierra,” John warned the first time, every word serious. “If anything happens to her because of you, I’ll do everything you did back then to you, one by one.”

“Aren’t you making things hard for her yourself?” Danny shot back.
