Chapter 132
“Well, that I don’t know,” Jubilee said to Sierra on the phone, careful not to speak in absolutes. “For all I know, she could have been seeing someone else behind my back.”
“When I went to the hospital to see my mom today, I ran into someone in her room,” Sierra changed the story a little so she could get closer to the truth. “He said he was an old friend of hers.”
“Oh,” Jubilee replied.
Sierra took a screenshot from the security footage, cropped it, and sent it to her. “See if you know him?”
Jubilee picked up her phone by the edge of the sink and tapped open the image in the chat as she walked toward the living room.
The moment she saw the man in the photo, her eyes widened. The phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor with a heavy
thud.
How was that possible? How did he find Anna?
“Jubilee?” Sierra didn’t miss the look on Jubilee’s face when she saw the photo. It was obvious that she knew him, and that things between them weren’t that simple.
Jubilee picked up her phone and forced her expression back under control. “You said you ran into him in your mom’s room just
now.”
“Yeah,” Sierra answered.
“What did he say to you?” Jubilee asked.
“Is he really my mom’s old friend?” Sierra asked back instead of answering.
In Sierra’s memory, Jubilee always took everything in stride. Even when Jubilee heard that Sierra was going to marry John, a man who had nothing to do with them, she hadn’t shown the slightest surprise.
But just now, Sierra had clearly seen the loss of composure on Jubilee’s face.
“No,” Jubilee lied, making up another kind of relationship. “It’s more like an enemy.”
An enemy?
Would an enemy really sit by her mother’s bed for half an hour so patiently?
“What else did he say to you?” Jubilee asked again.
“He didn’t say anything.” This time, Sierra didn’t lie. “I made that up. I never met him. I only know about him because the doctor told me.”
“Oh, you little rascal! You’re picking up bad habits from John,” Jubilee teased Sierra, finally letting herself relax a little. Sierra smiled and brushed it off. She didn’t mention the divorce because she didn’t want Jubilee to worry.
“He’s not a good man. Tell John not to let him in again,” Jubilee said, knowing Anna had been staying in a private hospital under Henderson Group. “You stay away from him too.”
Sierra nodded obediently. “Alright.”
They chatted a while longer about some mundane topics before ending the call.
As if afraid Sierra wouldn’t listen, Jubilee sent another message after hanging up, reminding her again to stay away from that man. Even though Sierra agreed, Jubilee was still uneasy.
In the end, she looked for a long–forgotten number and gave it a call.

From the conversation, Sierra was sure that man had a deep connection to her mom. Jubilee had called him an enemy, but when she said it, her tone and expression were closer to something like sulkiness.
Was he someone from her mother’s family? Or had her mother been abandoned by her family and left at the orphanage, only to be reunited with them later?
Sierra had many questions, but she didn’t plan to dig any deeper. A past no one wanted to mention had to be an unhappy one.
Since her mom had chosen to hide it, it meant she wanted to forget about it.
When her mom woke up, Sierra would listen if Anna wanted to talk about it. If she didn’t want to, Sierra wouldn’t push it either.
In Sierra’s world, her mom was the most important person ever. Everyone else she didn’t know mattered little.
Once Sierra set this aside, she turned her mind to her company’s anniversary party. A classical dance wouldn’t have much of an edge at that kind of event, so she needed something new.
After thinking about it all night, Sierra settled on an idea and even wrote a script for it.
