Holly had already heard everything that happened after Nicholas returned. It was really quite low, if you asked her.
Sierra almost said they didn’t need to go, but when she saw how excited Holly was, she didn’t have the heart to refuse.
With Holly behind the wheel, they reached the restaurant pretty quickly. Nicholas was already waiting by the window. Before he could greet them, his expression darkened the moment he saw two more people walking in behind them.
“What’s with that face?” Holly sat down and went at him right away.
Nicholas lifted his chin toward the space behind them.
Sierra and Holly turned around at the same time.
“Sister? Sierra?” Pamela walked over with her arm around John’s arm and greeted them without any hint of awkwardness.” What a coincidence. You’re eating here too?”
“Unbelievable!” Holly cursed under her breath.
Nicholas caught the keyword. “Sister?”
Sierra glanced at him, clearly still clueless about Pamela being the Sanders family’s illegitimate daughter.
“Come on, we’re eating somewhere else.” Holly lost her appetite the moment she saw the two of them. She took Tommy’s hand and headed for the door. “What kind of restaurant is this, anyway? Letting just anyone in… People will start thinking this is a trash dump.”
Nicholas fell silent, and he secretly gave Holly a thumbs–up.
John lifted his eyes, and the temperature around him seemed to drop.
“Dad,” Tommy spoke up just in time, his young voice soft and sweet.
John pulled his gaze back. He bent down in front of him, patting Tommy’s head. He had thought the boy was ignoring him after what happened last time. “Yeah?”
“Can you go eat somewhere else with this lady?” Tommy’s eyes turned toward Pamela in a serious tone. “I don’t want to see her, and I don’t want to see you together.”
John froze.
A flash of anger crossed Pamela’s eyes,
“I just want to have a happy dinner with Mom and everyone,” Tommy said in a childlike tone. “Is that alright?”
“Alright.” John didn’t push back.
Holly blinked. Nicholas was awestruck.
Both of them were clearly surprised.
John ignored their looks. He patted Tommy’s head again, then stood and said to Pamela, “We’ll go somewhere else.”
Pamela’s smile was stiff. “Alright.”
Only now did she understand that besides Sierra, she didn’t even measure up to a boy in John’s heart. If one sentence from Tommy could make him give way now, would another sentence be enough for him to throw her aside in the future as well?
The thought made her mood sink lower than ever.
“I owe Tommy for being with you, after all.” John could see perfectly well that Pamela was upset. Someone like him rarely

missed these kinds of details. “Letting him have his way with small things like this is how I make it up to him.”
“I know.” Pamela forced a gentle smile. “You don’t need to explain.”
Watching the two of them walk off just like that, Nicholas was still a little mystified. Only when Holly sat down beside him did he turn to Tommy and give him a thumbs–up.
“You’re impressive, kid.”
